Matthey Middle School 1st Division UIL Band

Many bands can work months upon months training for one UIL
competition but many end up with just a 3rd or a respectable
2nd division. However, this was not the case for the Matthey
Middle School Band. Many members of the Band who were

beginners were put directly into the Honors band due to the
pandemic. Fortunately, we had two great directors there to
guide us through our endeavors. They helped every single one

of us and ultimately led us to victory. Matthey Middle School
places 1st Division Band. All their hard work paid off !

8th Grade Girls Basketball A Team to Watch

Did you get to watch 8th grade girls play basketball here at Matthey

Middle School? At the 8th grade girls’ fi nal basketball game, the
crowd was amazed to see how easily the ladies made basketball
look and how talented they were at such young ages. If you missed
out on them this year and last year, you missed out on two years of
amazing Cardinal basketball.

The 8th grade girls basketball team is one of the best groups of girls

to play basketball here in Matthey middle school and Southside
Independent School District. The 8th grade girls basketball team
has never lost a game in 2 years. Can you believe that even in 7th
grade, they were undefeated? That just goes to show how dedicated

they are at their sports, but also how amazing their coaches are at
teaching them the game.

The 8th grade ladies knew how to work together as a team and
support the strengths of each other to win a game.

Next year be sure to look out for our Matthey Lady Cardinals who will be dominating the court at Southside H.S.
