POLICE DEPARTMENT RECEIVES NEW EMERGENCY VEHICLES

In November 2020, the Southside ISD Police Department received nine 2020 Ford Police Responder Hybrid vehi-
cles. These new emergency vehicles replaced a fleet of unreliable, aging assortment of makes, models and years of
vehicles previously in use. The emergency vehicles had originally been anticipated to arrive in summer of 2020, but
due to Covid-19, the Ford factory was shut down for a time and production and delivery was delayed. The vehicles
also have new graphics to include the district motto, “We Are One”.
These hybrid emergency vehicles will offer benefits of fuel savings over fossil fuel only powered vehicles, fewer fill
ups and reduced CO2 emissions. The model the police department is utilizing was awarded the 2018 Commercial
Green Car of the Year by Green Car Journal. These are not the same hybrid cars available as a consumer vehicle,
these are purposely designed and built emergency vehicles that line up with Southside’s sustainability goals and
place Southside ISD PD on the leading edge of environmental awareness while maintaining public safety readiness.
