GREEN STEEL AND HYDROGEN
CONFERENCE 2025
Eduardo Carregueiro and Daniel Mende attended the two-day event from
13.-14.05.25. While last year it was still a small trade fair with lots of
stands, this year the focus was on keynote speakers.
The topic of “Green Steel” was presented in a more clearly structured way
this time. Primetals showed the entire production process - from melting
to rolling - and emphasized that green steel production starts with the raw
materials. Metalshub presented concrete figures and pointed out that the
transformation process is progressing too slowly to achieve the targets by
2040. They named criteria for green steel: <1000 kg CO₂ per 1000 kg
rolled steel, traceability (Scope 1-3) and independent certification.
Other topics included digitalization and AI for data evaluation. The
presentation of Alleima was also interesting, showing where emissions
occur in the production process: 13% during melting, 61% from raw
materials, 26% from energy during rolling/heat treatment. The relevant
standards are ISO 14067 and ISO 14040/14044. Swiss Steel also
presented its “Climate+” products.
The event was very informative overall, including in the area of hydrogen.
We were able to take away valuable impulses and ideas for our sustainable
development.
