POEM
Sacrifice
By: Kimon Maharjan
The smoke of the grenade feels like an intoxicating cloud
A cloud that brings hate; not calmness
But it's not the calmness that I fear
It's the fear of what I have worked for, I will lose.
Gunshots everywhere; screams of innocent men
MAKING MY HEART BLEED!
As I sit down, to reload
More shots fire!
I look at my ammo, only one pack left
At this rate, I accept my fate.
I threw my stun grenade; I fight for this nation
The nation in which mother nature forgets to nurture their children;
The nation in which river does not flow away the sins of people;
The nation in which evil doesn't get punished.
I hope she is taking care of my children
She’s probably there with a man better than me
I hope my son becomes a man better than me
I hope my daughter gets a man wiser and stronger than me
The war goes on as I stand on my knees
The vision of a wounded soldier began to replace with a memory,
A memory of a family
“Thank you they say”
As I lie down with a bullet in my chest.
Brutus

You have always protected me
You're my best friend
You are exceptionally special to me
And no one can replace you
You follow my lead on every trick I teach you
Whenever it's fetch, sit or namaste
You've never failed to make me smile
The one constant in my life is you
You lick my face when I'm down
You rest your head on my feet
And on my bed by my side
People say you're just a dog
But you mean so much more to me
you're my best friend
You're a part of me
