THE CPD
PIPELINE
Not sure where to start with your CPD? It’s a lot
less complicated than you might think, says IGEM ambitions
Professional Development Officer Ross McCart
as he guides you through the process
goals
1. CONSIDER WHAT YOU
WANT TO ACHIEVE
A CPD plan helps you to
achieve your training
objectives, so the first thing
to do is decide what those
might be. Have a think about START HERE
your career goals and the 1
skills you need to build on to
achieve them. What are your
strengths? What are your 6
weaknesses? As you progress
in your career, the types of
activities that you carry out
will change. How you develop
your career and maintain your
competence will also need to IGEM
change. What won’t change is
the need to continue to
develop your skills.
6. REPEAT
It can seem quite daunting to think that as long as you’re working you’ll
need to complete CPD, but hopefully, with support from IGEM, you’ll find
it easy to fall into a habit of recording CPD so that it becomes instinctive.
WHAT IS CPD?
Continuing Professional Development (CPD) is the term used to describe learning activities professionals
engage in to enhance their abilities. Essentially, CPD is learning. Every time you learn something new, you
are doing CPD. Your CPD is supported by IGEM with the aim of creating an environment that enables you
to remain professionally competent.
