All Change at SoMJ:
Ave atque Vale
After 20 exceptionally rewarding and eventful years
editing the Society of Malawi Journal, I form the opinion that
now is perhaps the right time to step aside and hand the reins to
others. This will empower fresh eyes, different skill sets and new
perspectives to be harnessed to raise the game and carry the
Journal forward into an exciting, fruitfully challenging future
whilst jealously guarding traditional Malawian values,
standards, and scholarship. These last twenty years have seen
great changes, including the introduction of colour, the
publication of a high spec, perfect bound Journal in the U.K.
and, from there, its global distribution outside of Africa, the
latter rightly remaining Malawi’s province. A fully functional
digital Journal has also been developed and successfully tested
to future-proof Journal production in the face of ever escalating
production and distribution costs, and to satisfy the just
expectations of an exponentially digital-savvy Malawi.
Ave: The Society is exceptionally fortunate to have
secured the distinguished services of Dr. John Lwanda, M.B.,
ChB., F.R.C.P., PhD. and Mr. David Bone to assume editorial
duties with effect from January 2022. Both are eminently
qualified published scholars and Malawianists who have worked
together previously, and between them enjoy considerable
experience in the world of academic publishing. Further details
will be published in the next issue: Vol 74 – No 2, 2021.
Vale: David Stuart-Mogg.
