qualifications. He worked in the mines at the age of 13 just to
support his parents. He hated the job, but he was a very diligent
young boy and was persistent until he got his lucky break. That
lucky break was that he got a job as a messenger with one of the
companies at the time. You know his previous job was very bad
when a job as a messenger is considered a lucky break! Anyway,
one of the rich men on the street where Andrew delivered letters
was very generous. He opened his library to all messengers and
young men at the time to allow them the opportunity to educate
themselves by reading. Andrew grabbed the opportunity with both
hands and read as much as he could. This transformed his mind
from that of poverty consciousness to wealth consciousness. This
is not the direction of the story though, but Andrew became one of
the richest men in the world in his forties. When he died more than
100 years ago, they found a note in his drawer that surprised a lot
of people. He said in the note, I would spend half my life
accumulating a lot of money and spend half my life giving it all
away. True to his words, he did just that and was responsible for
the explosion of education in the western world. That note found
in his drawer is a principle that we may look at in my future books
or seminars. So, he said ‘Concentration is my motto’ this is the
same as a focus. So, 3 of the greatest achievers in the word said
something is the number one factor in their success, as an
entrepreneur, we must listen to them. This was also evident in the
way they conducted their business and their lives. Bill Gates
focuses on technology, Warren Buffett on investment and Andrew
Carnegie on steel.
THE ILLUSION OF MULTI-TASKING
The illusion of multitasking is robbing most entrepreneurs of
productivity and achievement. Why is this so? When we do
multiple tasks, is it not common sense that we may be able to do
more things? A scientific study of multi-tasking revealed that the
brain cannot focus on more than one thing at a time. When we
attempt multitasking, the brain just switches from one task to
another. Therefore both tasks would not be done with any level of
quality and more importantly, it would take longer than doing each
separately. Focus on one task at a time and complete it before
moving to another task. Avoid multitasking so that you increase
your productivity.
