TRIBUTE TO Dr. (Mrs.) Abimbola Olayinka Asagba
Port Health Services with great shock and heavy heart the demise of Dr. (Mrs)
Abimbola Olayinka Asagba.
Why should she die by now? Ha! Iku doro, omu enirere lo…, but God knows best.
Dr (Mrs) Abimbola Olayinka Asagba worked with many Divisions of the Public Health
Department of Federal Ministry of Health.
She was working at Epidemiology, when she was transferred to Port Health as
Director to take over from Late Dr. O.F.A Ashley-Dejo who was transferred to
Federal Ministry of Health Headquarters as a Director in charge of Public Health.
Yes! Dr. (Mrs) Abimbola Olayinka Asagba was God sent to Port Health. Even though,
Port Health was established in 1925 she performed creditably well more than her
predecessors.
She expanded the Scope and Activities of Port Health tremendously. It was during her
era that Port Health was established at ten legal routes of entry into the Country at
the following States Adamawa, Akwa Ibom, Benue, Jigawa, Katsina, Kebbi, Ogun,
Oyo, Taraba and Yobe. Ha Mama was great! with this expansion many members of
staff were employed some have retired but many are still in Service.
She was a mother indeed “Mother-in-Israel’. When there was downsizing of Civil
Servants during General Abacha rule, she made all efforts to protect Port Health. No
member of Port Health was down sized. She made all efforts to see that Federal
Ministry of Health sponsored many Environmental Health Officers to various Schools
of Health Technology.
Dr. (Mrs) Abimbola Olayinka Asagba was cool, calm and collected. A hard working
mama and good Counsellor. She was worthy of emulation.
May God give the children and the family fortitude to bear the loss as Port Health
prays the children should continue the good work she laid down.
Dr. (Mrs) Abimbola Olayinka Asagba, did not die but sleeping in the Bossom of God
Almighty. Sleep well till we meet to part no more.
Good night.
