Double Wall Knot




                                                              Starting with the wall knot, an extra
                                                              pass is made by each of the strands.
                                                              Take care that each strand follows a

                                                              similar path to its neighbor. The
                                                              double wall knot that results is a flat

                                                              disc-like knot. We are lucky that an
                                                              example from the very beginning of
                                                              the nineteenth century has been

                                                              preserved on the top bolt rope of the
                                                              fore-top sail of HMS Victory. Knots,

                                                              rope, and canvas are such ephemeral
                                                              materials that any knot preserved

                                                              from our past is of great significance,
                                                              showing, as it does, exactly how our

                                                              forefathers used to work with rope.








        1 Make a wall knot. Take one of the
           strands.
        2 Bring this strand round past the next or
           second strand in a counterclockwise

           direction. Bring it up through the hole that
           the second strand sticks up through.
