oriented computer science field where rules and optimization are the goals, the reverse then
becomes the case with the potential for miscommunication. The two groups, given the same
problem, will ask different questions, pick up on different details, use different metaphors to
describe the problem, and come into the situation with different assumptions (White, 2003).
Conclusion
Interdisciplinary approach to research presents a very unique way to stimulate the
generation of new approaches to problem solving strategies which neither group, nor field, has
thought of before. This is where the strength of an interdisciplinary approach to research
endeavor lies. In order for the partnership emanating from this type of research is successful
when the need for each side not only to have the appreciation of each other's strength but also
welcoming its weaknesses. In order for this research team endeavor to be successful, there
should be the urgent need for solid foundation to be built on the following platforms:
i. constant communication,
ii. Clarity in the explanations of background information
iii. Clear and concise goals of each stage of the project
The establishment of a constant communication among researchers, clarity in the
explanations of background information and clear and concise goals at each stage of the project
would enhance diverse collaboration in interdisciplinary research approach which should be
valuable not only for its immediate benefits to research and scholarship in the academy, but also
would keep the door open to diverse career paths in both the sciences, technology, engineering,
mathematics, and the social sciences. Interdisciplinary research approach encapsulates the
perfect introduction to the team-based approach common in the industry, a career direction that
