environment, data communications and telecommunications equipment, and
local and wide area networks. The Student will examine case studies in
communications systems design in educational, industrial, governmental, and
military environments.
INSS 640 INFORMATION SYSTEMS ANALYSIS AND DESIGN

This course will provide an in-depth look at all phases of information systems
development. Requirement acquisition methodologies will be reviewed and
evaluated with respect to different application areas. Logical design will be
reviewed and implementation issues will be addressed. Data-centered as well
as process-centered approaches to system design will be reviewed. Particular
design methodologies, including structured design and objected-oriented
design will be discussed. Life cycle as well as heuristic approaches to system
development will be examined and discussed. Organizational and behavioral
issues with respect to information system development will be examined. An
analysis and design project will be required.
INSS 650 DATABASE MANAGEMENT AND DECISION SYSTEMS

This course will examine database concepts and practices as they relate to
business environments. Various database structures, including relational and
object-oriented, will be discussed. Concepts of distributed database
architecture will be explored. Design, development, and implementation of
databases will be examined. Organizational issues concerning the
implementation of databases will also be examined. The role of data in the
decision-making process will be examined. Decision support system
architectures will be reviewed, with emphasis on the database component.
Issues of intelligent databases will be discussed. A database project will be
required.
