Special Services
Graduate Assistants (GAs)
This group of HRD Graduate students are available to provide you with information and resources
you may need on your journey. They are located in the Behavioral Sciences Department on the third
floor in CLT-364. You can contact the Graduate Assistants at (301) 860-3156.
Mentoring Connections
Current and Alumni HRD Graduates are available for mentoring those who are looking for extra
encouragement and guidance from a personal perspective. These mentors will share their
journey in an effort to testify as to the benefits of being an HRD professional during and after
their graduate experience.
Internships
At some time during your educational journey, there may be opportunities to work as an intern in
the HRD field. Such opportunities may be available through postings, announcements, or
information passed along by the faculty, staff, or Graduate Assistants. Internships are a great way
to enhance and grow the skills you have learned and could possibly lead to a full-time position as an
HRD professional.
Library Resources
BSU offers a wide array of resources in many different medias. It is important to familiarize yourself
with these resources as soon as you begin the program. You will need to be able to find current
scientific and practitioner materials for many of your course projects. Make a point of visiting
Thurgood G. Marshall Library your first week of classes. The library has computers available for
online research, books, newspapers, accepted thesis, journals and periodicals, etc. You will need all
of these materials while enrolled in the HRD program. You can access the card catalog of materials
online by going to http://www.bowestate.edu. Go to Library and then to Catalog.
Do not limit yourself to BSU's library. You should also familiarize yourself with other libraries in
the University of Maryland system such as University of Maryland College Park, Towson, UMBC,
etc. Some of these schools may have materials that BSU does not. Inter-library loans can be made.
In addition, use your local county libraries or local community college library.
As a student at BSU you have access to the University of Maryland's online research portal. The
library staff can assist you with accessing the BSU system and assist you with any questions you
may have the portal, which can be accessed on the Internet at http://www.researchport.umd.edu.
You will need your BowieCard to access the portal from an off campus computer.
