6 Things To Do As Parents When Your Kids Have Cavities And Needs Fillings
Good oral health is the foundation of overall wellness, and the habits that a child
establishes during childhood will often last a lifetime. Yet even with the best care,
you can occasionally run into problems, such as when your child needs llings due
to cavities.
Cavities can be caused by multiple things but usually it boils down to poor hygiene
habits and diet. That means your child is either not brushing enough or improperly
or perhaps your child’s diet has too much sugar in it. Don’t beat yourself up over it.
Just make a promise with your child to avoid future cavities through good oral
hygiene and a healthy diet.
As is natural, any child would be scared to have a medical procedure performed
but dental operations tend to particularly inspire fear in young ones.
So here are six things you can do as a parent to help your child prepare to have a
cavity lled:
1. Breathing Exercises to Remain Calm
One of the most effective ways to control anxiety and fear is through controlled
breathing exercises. You could try teaching your child this or coaching them
during the procedure to, again, help keep them calm from whatever is making
them upset.
2. Nitrous Oxide
This method of conscious sedation may be appropriate for your child depending
on what your dentist thinks.
