New Imagination of the Public Space; a Great
Evolution of the Children’s Park
FengLe It has been 25 years since FengLe Sculpture Park in the Nantun
Sculpture Park District started operation in 1994. It is the first public sculpture
park in the early stage in Taiwan, and there are many art sculptures
Taichung City inside. Up to now, many spaces are destroyed or timeworn; as a
result, the city government designated budgeting of 19.57 million
of NTD to improve the park’s environment. The improved sites
include the surrounding footway, the street-corner square, the gate
square, the flower stand seats, the water scenery in the sculpture
area and the children’s playground. Furthermore, after the
Taichung City Government discussed with the Chinese Extreme
Sports Association, the Chinese Parkour Association, the Parkour
players, and etc., the 1st Parkour facility was established by the
side of the children’s playground at the south-western corner of
the park. It can be considered as a critical milestone in the Parkour
sport development in Taiwan.
What Are Parkour Sport? Is It Dangerous?
Parkour sport can be traced back to France, and it was originally
a Nature Training Method promoted by the French Navy Officer
Georges Hebert(1875-1957) for training the army. He was
inspired by the African aboriginals’ shadow skillfully shuttling
to and fro in the forest in Nature. In addition, parkour can be
related to from military physical training, fire fighters’ disaster
rescuing skill training, to the street movement. Recently, parkour
has been known by the public through movies. It has attracted
people around the world to learn, and become a new type of the
street movement in the recent years. Due to that most people
mainly perceive parkour from movies, and most of their percept
of parkour is related to leaping pictures, people often associate
parkour with “danger” upon hearing it.
