Driver Charged With DUI In Fatal Tow Truck Accident

A Tampa man was taken into custody and charged with DUI after a fatal accident on I-275 and Fowler Avenue. The accident occurred at ap- proximately 1:30 a. m. Sun- day morning.
According to the Florida Highway Patrol, Leandro Corrales Perez, 30, of Tampa, was traveling south- bound on I-275 in the outside lane. Danny Ray Hand, 42, of New Port Richey, a tow truck driver for Crockett’s Towing & Recovery, was parked on the outside shoul- der of the road.
Police said all of the cau- tion lights were activated on the tow truck. Hand was standing on the shoulder as- sisting a disabled motorist when Perez reportedly lost

control of his vehicle. The ve- hicle left the roadway and struck Hand. Hand died at the scene. The unidentified motorist was not injured.
Police arrested Perez and charged him with DUI Manslaughter. He was trans- ported to the Hillsborough County Jail.
A 40-year-old Tampa mother was sentenced to five years probation for child neg- lect. She was originally ar- rested on April 24th in connection with the death of her ill child.
According to court records, Ms. Jolanda Stridiron was sentenced to 5 years of proba- tion and must undergo a court ordered psychological evaluation.
She was arrested and charged after the death of her 6-year-old daughter, Kharisma Williams. Williams died in February 2015.
Williams was diagnosed with Dandy-Walker Syn- drome, a illness that caused the brain to develop abnor- mally. The child began com- plaining of headaches on

February 7th, but her mother decided not to take her to the emergency room because she worried about paying the hos- pital deductible, police said.
The child died two days later. Ms. Stridiron was ini- tially charged with first-de- gree manslaughter. However, she was allowed to plead guilty to child neglect.

Bicyclist Killed By Hit And Run Driver
The Tampa Police Depart- ment is currently investigat- ing a fatal accident that occurred on E. Hillsborough Avenue and Himes Avenue. Police said the driver did not stop after the accident.
According to police, an unidentified bicyclist was struck while in the crosswalk at the intersection of Hills- borough and Himes Avenue at approximately 3:22 a.m., Sunday. The driver of the dark colored sedan fled west-
bound of Hillsborough Av- enue after the accident.
The bicyclist, who died at the scene, had not been iden- tified at press time.
Police located the vehicle believed to be involved in the accident, but have not identi- fied the driver. The investiga- tion is continuing.

Passenger Killed After Car Slams Into Palm Tree
A 23-year-old man died last Wednesday after the ve- hicle he was riding in struck a median and then a palm tree. The accident occurred on Brandon Parkway.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, the accident occurred at ap- proximately 12:33 a.m. An- drew John Wallace, 25, was reportedly driving his 2003 Nissan 350Z at a high rate of speed. As he ap-
proached a curve in the road- way, he was unable to negoti- ate the turn. The car drove into a raised concrete median and then struck a palm tree on the passenger side.
Ivan Ordonez, the pas- senger in the vehicle, died at the scene. Wallace was transported to Tampa Gen- eral Hospital with non-life threatening injuries. Charges are pending and the investi- gation is continuing.
