Black Nurses Of Hillsborough County Historical Organization Honoring Celebration

The Black Nurses of Hillsborough County His- torical Organization, Inc. invites the community to it Honoring Celebration. The event will be held on Satur- day, February 25, 2017, 2-6 p. m., at American Legion Post #111, 6918 N. Florida Ave. (33604).
The theme of the event is “The Plight of Black Nurses: What A Difference

Those being honored
are: Carolyn Collins, Deloris Singleton, RN, BSN, Gwen Hayes, and nursing students, De’Ja Suttle and Arthur Shep- herd.
The Black Nurses of Hillsborough County His- torical Organization was founded by Rev. Pauline Morgan Cole in 2007 for
the purpose of document- ing history of Black nurses in Hillsborough County.
The community is asked to join the organization to help provide scholarships to students in nursing as they pursue bachelor’s de- grees.

Plant City Community To Celebrate Black Heritage This Weekend
The Plant City Black Her- itage Celebration, Inc. will host its Black Heritage cele- bration this weekend. The 14th Annual Black Heritage Banquet and Gala will be held on Friday evening, February 10, 2017, 6 p. m. at the Hills- borough Community College Trinkle Center, 1206 N., Park Rd., Plant City (33563).
The theme for the ban- quet is “Empowering Black America.” The keynote speaker will be former Tampa Bay Buccaneer, Frank Mur- phy.
According to Ms. Sharon Moody, chair, the event coincides with Black History Month. This year the committee is partnering with Hillsborough County Public Schools, Tampa Bay Black Heritage Festival and the Florida State Fair Authority to recognize the students and provide scholarships to 9 winners of the 2017 Learn, Empower, Advocate, Dream (LEAD) student contest.
The contest challenges students to create an artistic interpretation expressing how he or she has been in- spired by a local Black leader.
The Youth Summit will be held on Saturday morning, Feb. 11th, 9 a. m.-noon at Plant City’s Dr. Martin

Luther King Recreation Cen- ter on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd.
Participating in the Youth Summit will be: Plant City Police Department; Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office; Florida Department of Law Enforcement and community leaders. Denzel Singleton of Hillsborough High School will be the facilitator.
