Sing - In a city of animated animals, a theater owner (voiced by Matthew McConaughey) attempts to save his theater with a singing competition. The finalists (voiced by Reese Witherspoon, Seth Mac- Farlane) must go through life’s trials and tribulations to be able to compete. Must admit this was a great animation for kids and adults. Really enjoyed this animation. The film moved fast and the soundtrack was good. Made $226M-U.S/ foreign- $224M- (budget-$75M)- ****
Split - M. Night Shyamalan (Signs) directs a pyscho-thriller about three girls (Ana-Taylor Joy) being kidnapped by a mentally disturbed man with 24 distinct personalities. McAvoy should have been nominated for an Oscar for best male actor. Psychiatrist Dr. Karen Fletcher (Betty Buckley) shoud have been nominated for best supporting actress. A well-written script from Shyamalan. Must see for fans looking for a pyscho thriller. Still No.1 at box office-$98M (budget-$9M)- ****
XXX: Return of Xander Cage - Daredevil Operative Xander Cage( Vin Diesel) returns from the dead to recruit a new group of thrill-seeking XXX members to find a Pandora’s box that controls the satellites in the world. The government (Toni Collette) sends Cage’s team in on a mission to get the box from a highly skilled team (Donnie “IP Man” Yen, Deepika Padukone). A predictable storyline full of stunts and violence. Being a Vin Diesel fan, I still enjoy it, even though the script was weak. Made $40M U.S./ foreign- $114M- (budget- $85M)- ***
Sleepless - Two corrupt cops (Jamie Foxx, T. I. Harris) with connections to the drug world have to do whatever it takes to get back Foxx’s son who was kidnapped by the drug dealers they stole from. Everything in the movie was based in one day. So the film moved fast with back to back action. En- joyed it! Made $19M (budget-N/A)- ***
Hidden Figures - Based on a true story, three Black women (Taraji P. Henson, Octavia Spencer, Janelle Monae) provide NASA with ground breaking mathematical data needed to launch and land the program’s first space mission. An amazing true story about the trials, tribulation, and triumph these women had to go through to be successful. A feel-good film. Must- see for everyone! Made - $119M (budget- $25M)- *****classic
Fences - A disgruntle father (Denzel Washington) back in the 50s, struggles to raise his family (Viola Davis, Stephen Henderson) and come to terms with his unfortunate past. You really have to be in the mood for this blockbuster Broadway play brought to the big screen by director/actor Denzel Washington. If you like serious drama, then this film is for you. Made $52M (budget-$24M)- ****
Rogue One: A Star Wars Story - The Rebel Alliance (Felicity Jones, Diego Luna) comes to- gether to steal the plans for the Death Star weapon from the evil Orson Krennic (Ben Mendelsohn). The Alliance goes Rogue One to set up the epic ending with Krennic and Darth Vader (voice by James Earl Jones) that made this Star Wars film a Classic. Also starring Forrest Whitaker, Donnie Yen (IP Man) and Mads Mikkelsen. Director Gareth Edwards scored on this one. Must-see for Star Wars fans. Made-$524M-U.S/ foreign- $513M- (budget-$200M)- *****classic.
Arrival - A speech interpreter (Amy Adams) and a mathematician (Jeremy Renner) are recruited by the military (Forest Whitaker) in translating alien communication. Pressed by time, the group must figure out what the aliens are doing on Earth before a World War. A nice twist at the end. Must- see for sci-fi fans. Made $98M (budget-47M)- ****
Moana - Another Disney Animation classic about a Chief’s teenage daughter Moana (voiced by Auli’i Cravalho) going on an dangerous journey on the ocean to seek out the demigod Maui (voiced by Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson) to help save her island from a terrible curse. Must-see for kids and adults. Enjoyed it ! Made-$242M (budget-N/A) - ****
