‘Just Mercy,’ Movie Set In Alabama, Makes $10 Million At Box Office
Nipsey Hussle's 'Victory Lap' Album Reportedly Certified Platinum
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. — Going up against a lot of com- petition, a movie about a Montgomery-based lawyer working to get a man off death row is holding its own.
“Just Mercy,” a movie about the Equal Justice Initiative’s Bryan Stevenson and his work to get Walter McMil- lian off Alabama’s death row, was released nationwide this past Friday and tied for fourth place at the domestic box of- fice. According to Box Office Mojo, “Just Mercy” has al- ready raked in over $10 million this weekend alone.
The biopic, which was par- tially shot in Montgomery, went up against many big movies this weekend, includ- ing “1917,” “Like a Boss” and “Underwater,” as well as the
Just Mercy starring Michael B. Jordan and Jamie Foxx.
Nearly 10 months after Nipsey Hussle’s March 31 shooting death, his final album Victory Lap has re- portedly been certified plat- inum by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA).
The Grammy Award-nom- inated project was initially re- leased last February and debuted at No. 4 on the Bill- board 200, selling roughly 53,000 album-equivalent units in its first week. Follow- ing his death, the album peaked at No. 2. with over 66,000 album-equivalent units sold in the first week of April 2019.
