Hillsborough County Plans 2016 Neighborhoods Conference
The 2016 edition of Hills- borough County’s annual Neighborhoods Conference is scheduled for Saturday, July 23, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at the Sheraton Tampa East Hotel, 10221 Princess Palm Ave., in Tampa.
Registration is now open for neighborhood and com- munity leaders who want to learn how to enhance their leadership skills, as well as to learn new ideas for making their communities more at- tractive, friendly, safe, and sustainable.
Admission is free and in- cludes continental breakfast,
giveaways, access to all ex- hibits, more than a dozen valuable workshops, and the annual Neighborhood Recognition Awards lunch- eon.
New this year is a pro- gram especially for young people ages 12 to 18. The Hillsborough County Office of Neighborhood Relations is partnering with the Hillsbor- ough County Youth Leader- ship Council to present topics of interest to these fu- ture leaders, including money management, social media, career planning, computer literacy, bullying
and anger management, and teambuilding. Like the main conference, there is no cost to attend.
To encourage teens to take an interest in their com- munity, the Children’s Board of Hillsborough County has funded a $2,000 award to- ward a community improve- ment service project. The winner will be announced at the Neighborhoods Confer- ence.
Applicants should in- clude a detailed description and budget of the proposed projects, and explain how the project would make a posi-
tive impact in the neighbor- hood. The deadline is July 15.
