Commissioner Elected As Chairman Of HART Board

On Monday, the Hillsbor- ough Area Regional Transit Board of Directors held its first meeting of the year. During the meeting, the Chairman of the Board as well as other officers were elected.
The Board consists of all 7 members of the Hillsborough County Board of Commission- ers, 3 members of the Tampa City Council, 1 member of the Temple Terrace City Council, and 2 members appointed by the governor.
During the meeting, Com- missioner Les Miller, Jr., was elected as the Chairman of the Board. He will serve one calendar year and be eligible to serve a second term if elected.
Other officers elected to serve are Karen Jaroch as Vice Chairperson, and Tampa City Councilman Mike Suarez as Secretary.
When contacted by the
Sentinel, Commissioner Miller said, “I am honored to be chosen by my peers to lead an agency that is dedicated to enhancing transportation serv- ices in Hillsborough County.
“I was not expecting it, but because of the Sunshine Law, I didn’t know. I’m looking for- ward to serving as Chairperson
on the HART Board of Direc- tors and will continue our ini- tiatives to improve mobility for all who live, work, and visit this county. HART is transforming transportation in the Tampa Bay Area.”
Commissioner Miller
brings to the role a wealth of experience having served as a member of the Florida House, and as a member of the Florida Senate. During his tenure as a state elected official, he served as the Minority leader for both the House and the Senate.
Commissioner Miller
has also served on the Florida Board of Regents and as Asso- ciate Vice President and Dean for Students at the University of South Florida. He has also served on numerous other boards.
He was appointed to the HART Board of Directors on July 30, 2014. The board members assumed their roles at the meeting.

Meetings	Revival
Howard W. Blake Class Of 1968
The Howard W. Blake High Class of 1968 will hold its meeting on Saturday, January 14, 2017, 11 a. m.-1 p. m. at the West Tampa Branch Library, 2312 W, Union St. The class is beginning to pre- pare for its 50th Reunion.
Middleton High Class Of 1961
The Middleton High School Class of 1961 will hold its first meeting of the new year on Saturday, January 14, 2017 at the Po- lice Sub-Station located at 3808 N. 22nd Street, at 4 P. M. Class- mates are encouraged to attend.
Discussion will include plans to visit the African American Mu- seum in Washington, D. C. this Summer. For information, call (813) 466-5244.
