Next Tuesday, during their regular meeting, the School Board will name the newest school to be con- structed in Hillsborough County. They will choose from among 191 nominations submitted for consideration. The meeting will be held at 900 E, Kennedy Blvd., at 3 p.m.
There were 191 names submitted for “Elementary School C.” The names in- clude presidents, soldiers, former educators, activists, and other individuals both locally and nationally known.
Some of the local African Americans whose names have been submitted are: Rev. Abraham Brown, Dr. Lewis Brinson, Atty. Warren H. Dawson,
Tony Dungy, Doretha Edgecomb, James Gatlin, Dr. Hazel Har- vey, Dora Reeder, Lee Roy Selmon, Henry Washington, Felicia A. Wintons, and Dorothy York.
The new school falls under the jurisdiction of Ms. Shaylia McRae, Area Su-
perintendent for Area 8. Ms. McRae explained the process of naming a new school. “We send letters to the parents of students who will be impacted and send out a press release simulta-
neously. “After the deadline passes
and we have received all of the names, we put together a notebook with the name and supporting information for the board members. They have an opportunity to re- view the notebook.”
Ms. McRae further said that prior to voting on the names those in the audience at the school board meeting have an opportunity to speak and then the members vote on the name of the new school.
