Le'Veon Bell Doesn't Want To Be Traded By Steelers
LE’VEON BELL
The Pittsburgh Steelers are actively shopping Le'Veon Bell, but the running back ap- parently knows there's no place like home -- for now.
Bell, who has yet to sign his franchise tender, wants to play for the Steelers the rest of the season and he is expected to re- port in the weeks ahead.
The key date to circle is Oct. 30, which is the trade deadline. If the Steelers haven't pulled off a trade by then, Bell would have until Nov. 13 to sign the franchise tender to accrue a sea- son counted toward free agency.
The Steelers have relied on running back James Conner in the continued absence of Bell, who has forfeited $3.4M in salary through the first quar- ter of the regular season.
Eric Reid Kneels During Anthem In First Game With Panthers
ERIC REID
Eric Reid began his first game as a Carolina Panther on Sunday by kneeling during the national anthem. Panthers won the game, 33-31.
The game against the New York Giants was Reid’s first in the NFL since he played with the San Francisco 49ers, where he and Colin Kaepernick first knelt together during the anthem to protest racial in- equality and police brutality.
Reid had been unsigned since December 2017 until Sept. 27 of this year, when he signed a one-year contract with the Panthers. Both he and Kaepernick have filed a grievance against the NFL al- leging that the league colluded to keep them from getting signed.
‘Livid’ Giants Coach
Undefeated South
Florida Defeats UMass
Football Team, 58-42,
At McGuirk Stadium
The University of South Florida football team scored 28 third-quarter points and UMass couldn't crawl back en route to a 58-42 loss on Sat- urday at McGuirk Stadium.
The Minutemen (2-5) played without head coach Mark Whipple who was suspended one game after saying an opposing player "raped us" in last week's matchup against Ohio. De- fensive coordinator Ed Pinkham took over the coaching duties.
On Saturday, the biggest difficulty was containing run- ning back Jordan Cronkrite, who had a career night for USF (5-0). He rushed for an American Ath- letic Conference and the pro- gram record 302 yards on 23 carries. He also scored three times in the big third quarter.
Cronkrite broke loose through the heart of the Min- utemen's defense three times for huge runs. He rushed for touchdowns of 77, 76 and 30 yards and finished as the first opponent to rush for 300

yards against UMass since Georgia Southern's Adrian Peterson did it in 1999.
USF's potent running game allowed them to be ef- fective through the air as well. Quarterback Blake Barnett completed 17 of his 24 pass attempts for 209 yards and one touchdown.
The Bulldogs gained a total of 574 yards compared to the Minutemen's 486.
     Made Odell Beckham
Apologize To Team
Odell Beckham, Jr. re- cently sat down for an inter- view with ESPN’s Josina Anderson that has been air- ing in segments, and New York Giants head coach Pat Shurmur is furious over some of the things the star wide receiver said.
In a portion of his inter- view that aired Friday, Beck- ham said a lot of why the Giants have started 1-3 after a 3-13 season last year has to do with “the energy that we don’t have.” He also urged his team- mates to play with some “heart,” and Shurmur later told reporters he thinks scheming is the issue and not effort.
Shurmur was reportedly “absolutely livid” over the re- marks and asked Beckham to apologize to the team, which he did on Saturday night.
Unfortunately, the inter- view had already been taped. More of it aired on Sunday,

and you could argue that the latest clips make Beckham sound even worse. He was critical of Shurmur’s play- calling and also had a puzzling response to a question about Eli Manning.
The Giants signed Beck- ham to a five-year, $95 mil- lion contract extension before the season, so you know they aren’t happy about the mes- sage he is sending. You can’t blame Shurmur for being angry with a player who is sup- posed to be a team leader.

16th-Floor Window
 Thinks Chiefs Will
A college football player died after jumping from a 16th-story window Thursday night.
Marquis Brown, a run- ning back at Football Cham- pionship Subdivision school Duquesne, died at a Pitts- burgh hospital after plunging from the window at an on- campus building around 10:30 p.m., according to a letter to the campus commu- nity from university presi- dent Ken Gormley.
The Pittsburgh Police De- partment, which confirmed the details of Brown's death but did not identify him by name.
Brown jumped from a window at Brottier Hall after campus police arrived on the floor to respond to a reported disturbance, according to Gormley's letter.
Counselors have been made available to Duquesne students and staff, he wrote, and a memorial service on campus is being tentatively
 Earn Top Seed In AFC
The Jacksonville Jaguars were thoroughly dominated by the Kansas City Chiefs on Sunday and came away im- pressed with their opponents following the loss.
They also categorized the 30-14 defeat as a case of being beat rather than letting one slip away.
Several Jags defenders feel like they will see the Chiefs again in the playoffs. Safety Tashaun Gipson, who became the first player all season to intercept Patrick Mahomes, even said he thinks the Chiefs will earn the top seed in the AFC.
Kansas City is 5-0 and has been an offensive machine this season, so few would dis- agree about the thought that they might earn the top seed

planned for Sunday evening. "Please join me in praying for Marquis, his family, and his many friends and team- mates during this time of great sadness for the entire campus community," Gorm- ley wrote in the letter. "May
he rest in peace."
Brown is listed on
Duquesne's football roster as a sophomore, though the uni- versity identified him as a junior.
A product of DeMatha Catholic High School in Washington, he had three carries for seven yards in one game so far this season.
