Jordan Peele Surprises Hollywood Again: 'Us' Brings In $70 Million, Well More Than Expected
Michael Jackson Will Reportedly
Jordan Peele's new horror film terrified audiences and shattered expectations at the box office this weekend.
"Us," the director's second film, made an estimated $70.3 million in North America — more than tripling its produc- tion budget of $20 million.
It exceeded industry expec- tations in a big way. The film was initially projected by in- dustry experts to bring in closer to $45 million this weekend.
The R-rated film stars Lupita Nyong'o and Win- ston Duke as parents trying to fend off an attack from evil Doppelgängers. The film has made $87 million worldwide.
"There's nothing scary about horror for Hollywood," said Paul Dergarabedian,
$33 million on its opening weekend. That was 56 times its budget. "Get Out" was also nominated for four Oscars, and Peele won for Best Origi- nal Screenplay. As for Univer- sal, the studio now has the second, third and fourth biggest openings of the year — with "Us," "How to Train Your Dragon: The Hidden World," and "Glass."
The No. 1 opening in 2019 was by "Captain Marvel," from Disney and Marvel Stu- dios.
"Us" represents another horror hit for Hollywood. Scary films such as "It," "Hal- loween" and "A Quiet Place" have made big money on low budgets in recent years.
Strong reviews and word of mouth helped propel "Us."

"Us" is another hit for Peele and Universal.
Peele's "Get Out" was a critically acclaimed block- buster in theaters two years ago. It hauled in $255 million at the box office globally —
Ever since the airing of the Leaving Neverland documen- tary, which detailed allegations of child molestation against Michael Jackson, the backlash against the singer has been in- tense. Radio stations around the world have stopped playing his music. Jackson’s streaming and sales numbers have gone down. Even the episode of The Simpsons in which Jackson guest starred has been removed from circulation.
All that said, Jackson has re- leased some of the most leg- endary songs of all time, he’s one of the best-selling artists ever, and his influence has helped define music of all gen- res for decades. Despite the things Jackson is accused of having done, he is still one of the most accomplished musi- cians in the history of popular music, and for that reason, he will reportedly stay in the Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame. TMZ re- ports that, according to a “HOF
MICHAEL JACKSON official,” Jackson will remain
in the Hall, as he “was recog- nized for musical excellence and talent, along with having a last- ing impact on rock ‘n’ roll.” TMZ also noted that the same source said Jackson’s display at the physical Hall Of Fame will re- main unchanged.
Jackson was inducted into the Hall Of Fame two times: Once as part of the Jackson 5 in 1997, and again as a solo artist in 2001.

Here's Why Winston Duke Is Wearing A 'Howard' Sweatshirt In The No. 1 Movie 'Us'
Rihanna Stuns In Sexy Gold Mesh Dress Worth $7K
At 6 feet 5 inches, Winston Duke already stands out as the gentle giant who has to get brolic in Jordan Peele’s new nightmare “Us”. But the real star is what he’s wearing throughout the film—a sweat- shirt with the word “Howard” emblazoned across it. This fact was not lost on the campus of Howard University, a star HBCU having a Hollywood moment of sorts, with refer- ences to the storied institution popping up in popular cul- ture—from episodes of Black- ish to This is “Us”.
Nyong’o told the Howard crowd that this was her first time at Howard. The crowd screamed in delight.
The most recent episode of Lee Daniels and Danny Strong's Empire, this week's Clement Virgo-directed "In Loving Virtue," bagged the lowest ratings in the show's history.
The episode premiered March 20 and scored a 1.1 rat- ing in the 18-49 demographic with "just under" 4 million viewers, Variety reported Fri- day. All told, the show fell 11 eleven percent in the ratings and 10 percent in total viewer- ship when compared with last week’s episode, which itself showed a drop in overall view- ership. The series' previous ratings low was a 1.2 rating with 4.2 million viewers back

DMX And Crew Leave L. A. Restaurant In Another Diner's Corvette
Cast (Jussie Smollett, Terrance Howard and Taraji P. Henson) and staff of ‘Empire’ with Lee Daniels.
DMX had a great night out on the town Friday night ... in a car that was reported stolen.
X and his crew hit up STK restaurant inside the W hotel in Westwood and had a great time. At around 1 AM they left the restaurant and went to the valet to retrieve their cars. A member of X's team asked the valet to get his Corvette but couldn't find the ticket. The valets at the W are sticklers for tickets, but the valet recognized X and made an exception, as he eyed the Corvette parked nearby.
The valet drove the car up to DMX and his entourage, and everyone took off for a night- club on the Sunset Strip.
Meanwhile, back at the ranch, a guy who had just fin-

It's no doubt a tough path
forward for the show in light of recent developments in the Jussie Smollett case.
Daniels discussed the mood of the team following Smol- lett's arrest in a recent Insta- gram video, though he didn't mention the actor by name.
