BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
After several weeks of an- ticipation, the Positive Im- ages Committee is prepared for their upcoming event.
On Sunday, the organ- ization and members of the community will gather at Centennial Park, 1800 E. 18th Av- enue, (corner of 8th Av- enue and E. 18th Avenue), from 12 noon until 6 p.m.
Inclement weather caused the initial “Unity In The Com- munity,” event to be cancelled in June. For the last few weeks, members of the Posi- tive Images Committee have been working feverishly to reschedule the event.
The three honorary Co- Chairpersons for the event are: Mayor Bob Buck- horn, Tampa Police Chief Eric Ward, and David Gee, the Hillsborough County Sheriff.
Marvin Knight, Coordi-
nator of the event said, “I just want to thank everyone who is participating in this event. It is going to bring people to- gether from all walks of life and all ethnic backgrounds. We want the youth, the senior citizens, churches, organiza- tions, the business owners, and individuals to come out and have a great time.
“We are also offering a lot of services that people can take advantage of. We are going to have healthcare serv- ices, representatives from the school board, and some com- panies will be out there offer- ing job opportunities.
“We are going to have can- didates running for office and since the Voter Registration deadline has been extended, we will have a place where anyone who is eligible can register and be ready to vote in the upcoming election.”
He further said, “There will be ethnic food vendors, displays from the Fire De- partment, the Hillsborough

“It will also give people a chance to meet and talk with members of law enforcement. They will have a chance to just talk to the police officers who serve their communities. This is an opportunity for people to learn about the services that are available for them,” Knight said.
The lineup of entertain- ment will include performers and groups include: Ms. Shannon LeGrande and Tony Jackson, two popular soloists; the New Begin- ning Christian Blues Band, Kan-Dance Studio, Mo, who is a Christian rap- per, the Bonnye Franklin Step Team, and members of

Organization Celebrates Anniversary With Gospel Program
BY IRIS B. HOLTON Sentinel City Editor
On Sunday afternoon, a local not-for-profit organiza- tion will celebrate its anniver- sary. The founder of the organization will come in the form of a Gospel Extravaganza.
The program will take place at 4 p.m., at the College Hill Church Of God In Christ, cor- ner of N. 30th Street and E. Diana.
Thirty years ago, Pastor Moses Brown founded the Feed Our Children Ministries, Inc. Throughout the years, the organization has hosted annual events at Thanksgiving and Christmas to help families in need.
Pastor Brown has also been on hand to help others in need. In 2005, when Hurri- cane Katrina struck New Or- leans Pastor Brown gathered items to help the individuals in need.
In 2010, Pastor Brown visited Haiti after an earth- quake devastated the island. Now, he is once again prepar- ing to help the people of Haiti.
During the program, he will be accepting relief items. The people are currently in need of the following items: non-per- ishable food items such as pro- tein or granola bars, pre-packaged packets of chicken or tuna (no cans), pre- packaged cheese or peanut butter crackers, peanut butter (no glass containers), and trail mix.

Pastor Brown is also col- lecting first aid supplies, in- cluding band aids, triple antibiotic ointment, and Ibuprofen, insect repellant, and water purification tablets.
For cleaning, they need mops, brooms, buckets, sponges, cleaning supplies, and bleach tablets.
The tools needed include flashlights, AAA, AA, C, and D Cell batteries, chain saws, hand tree saws, work gloves, solar lights, and shovels.
Pastor Brown said he is unable to accept bottled water, liquid bleach, clothing, med- ications, or linens at this time.
