Man Sentenced To 27 Years For Armed Robbery
PATRICK D. CUMMINGS
A federal judge sentenced a man to more than two decades in prison. He pleaded guilty to armed robbery last year.
He was facing a maximum penalty of 20 on the robbery charge, followed by a manda- tory minimum consecutive prison term of 7 years to life on the firearm charge.
On Monday, Judge Steven D. Merryday sen- tenced Patrick D. Cum- mings, 43, of Pinellas County, to 27 years in prison. He pleaded guilty to interfer- ence with commerce by rob- bery and brandishing a firearm during a crime of vio- lence.
Cummings pleaded guilty to the robbery charge on July 26, 2017. Judge Merry- day found him guilty of the firearm charge following a bench trial on November 28, 2017.
According to court docu- ments, Cummings entered a Walgreens Store in St. Peters- burg shortly at 4 a.m., on March 24, 2017. He pressed a black handgun against a cashier’s back, demanded all of the money from her regis- ter, and repeatedly threatened to shoot her.
Cummings fled the scene with approximately $374. He was identified as the culprit by fingerprints left at the scene.
