Lou Williams Wins Record-Tying 3rd Sixth Man Of The Year Award

Rudy Gobert Wins 2nd-Straight Defensive Player Of The Year Award
RUDY GOBERT Rudy Gobert got his en-
core.
The Utah Jazz center won
his second consecutive Defen- sive Player of the Year award Monday at the NBA Awards show in Los Angeles.
Of 100 possible votes, Gobert received 65 first- place votes, 27 second-place votes and five third-place votes.
Gobert led the league in defensive real plus-minus (how many points are allowed when a player is on the court versus off of it), he was sec- ond in blocks and shot con- tests, and he helped the Jazz to the league’s best defense, according to cleaningthe- glass.com a basketball re- search and discussion website.

Apologize To Molly Qerim
For ‘Sexist’ Comment
At the NBA Awards, Lou Williams won his third Sixth Man of the Year Award, tying Jamal Crawford for the most ever, and his second as a Clipper.
He received 96 out of 100 1st place votes.
Lou averaged 20.2 points, 5.4 assists, and 3.0 re-
bounds in 26.6
minutes per

ing 42.5% from

LaVar Ball is dealing with #MeToo moment it seems. Ball has caught the ire of ESPN for a “completely inappropriate” comment he
made to “First host/moderator Qerim.
Take” Molly
throw line.
WILLIAMS
So far Ball is refusing to apologize for what he said and therefore, the network has barred him from any fu- ture appearances on any of its platforms until he does.
The network has “no plans moving forward” of ever having Ball as a guest on any of their programs.
The whole issue boils down to what is being de- scribed as a sexist comment by Ball to Qerim in re- sponse to what she asked him as he was speaking to Stephen A. Smith and Max Kellerman about the Lakers trading his son (Lonzo Ball) to the New Or- leans Pelicans for Anthony Davis.
Here’s what went down. Qerim said to Ball: “LaVar, can I switch gears
MOLLY QERIM AND LAVAR BALL
with you because I have a question here.”
Ball’s quick come back was: “You can switch gears with me anytime.”
At that point, Qerim paused for a moment, laughed, then moved on to her next question. She re- turned to the comment at the end of the show.
“If anyone’s calling HR today it’s me,” Qerim said.
This is where it seems a lot of other folks don’t agree with ESPN. Like Ball’s rep- resentative, Denise White, it’s hard to see how Ball’s comment could automati- cally be interpreted as sexual, per se.
Bradley Beal, Accepts Service Award, ‘Definitely’ Open To Extension Talks
Bradley Beal walked and talked like a franchise player as he accepted the NBA Cares Community Assist Award Monday night at the league’s annual gala.
The Washington Wizards all-star was accompanied by his wife, Kamiah Adams, and two teenage students from the Ron Brown College Preparatory High School, where he served as a mentor and hosted a series of events throughout the 2018-19 sea- son.
Of course, Beal’s own fu- ture is a hot topic, too.
Although
the 25-year-
old shooting
guard was
snubbed from
the 2019 all-
NBA teams
and therefore
missed out on
being eligible BEAL
for a so-called “supermax” contract extension, he re- mains eligible for a multi-year extension in July.
The Wizards were report- edly preparing to offer Beal a three-year extension worth $111 million.
