Godspeed Freddie! Local Musician University Bound
Congratulations to Fred- die J. Brinson, III, 2019 Graduate of Jesuit High School. During his time at Jesuit Freddie was actively engaged in a variety of spiri- tual, scholarship, athletic, and musical activities. Spiri- tual retreats provided spiri- tual direction, guidance, and self-reflections on his Chris- tian journey. Community service facilitated selfless op- portunities to pay it forward and uplift others.
The rigorous college preparatory curriculum (in- cluding four years of Latin) stimulated critical thinking that resulted in a wealth of knowledge, skills, and learn- ing applications.
Freddie played fresh- man football, he ran track, and he was on the freshman, junior varsity, and varsity basketball teams at Jesuit; and, he played basketball with the Amateur Athletic
FREDDIE J. BRINSON, III
Union, traveling across the country in competitive bas- ketball tournaments.
Freddie also had no- table musical achievements during his high school ca- reer. He played a variety of instruments (e.g., snare
drums, bass drums, timpani, and marimba); and, he was
the drum section leader for the concert band and the drumline leader for the pep band.
He also received a supe- rior rating for a marimba song he played in a Tampa Bay band competition, which lead to him being se- lected as a Jesuit High School representative at the State Regional Solo and En- semble Competition for two consecutive years. Freddie took top honors both years with a superior rating with distinction for his marimba solos.
During his senior year, Freddie received the Lewis Armstrong Jazz Award; plus, he was voted "Most Tal- ented” by his graduating class. Freddie was also voted the "Tri-County Stu- dent Musician of the Year"and awarded a scholar- ship by the Voices of Jazz.
Freddie takes great joy in sharing his musical tal- ents in the Tampa Bay com- munity (e.g., playing the keyboard, organ, and drums for a variety of church pro- grams, and participating in the Hillsborough County Black History Programs in 2018 as a background key- boardist, and in 2019 as a solo keyboard performer).
His entry into the world of music was taking drum lessons at the age of four. By the time he was six, Freddie was the drummer for Friendly Missionary Baptist Church (his family’s home church). He was also a drummer for Gramps and the Golden Harps; he was a keyboardist for the Eleva- tion Life Center; and, cur- rently he is a keyboardist and organist for the 34th Street Church of God.
Freddie will enter Florida Agricultural and Me- chanical University (FAMU) in the 2019 fall semester as a freshman majoring in fi- nance and accounting, with a minor in jazz music. Rattlers Strike!
Congratulations are also extended to Freddie's older sister, ShaVonne Boggs, for successfully completing her first two years of college as an honor roll scholar and an athlete competitive in two sports, volleyball and soft- ball. ShaVonne is prelaw with a major in sociology and a minor in criminology, and she completed the 2019 spring semester on the high honor roll.
Last but never least, happy birthday to ShaTayshia Brinson, Freddie's youngest sister. ShaTayshia will be sweet 16 on July 1st. Ongoing praises to the Almighty for mercy, grace, and healing power as ShaTayshia gets stronger and stronger and continues to fill the hearts of family and friends with joy.
Please join the prayers of Freddie's parents, Mr. and Mrs. Freddie and Jencey Brinson, Jr., his sisters and brother, Sheridan, ShaVonne, ShaTayshia, and Samuel, his aunt, Dr. Sabrina A. Brinson (Springfield, Missouri), and the rest of his family and friends that he will transition successfully to FAMU; and more importantly, that Freddie will continue to soar in his service to God.
“And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose.” Romans 8: 28.
