Popular DJ Passed After Losing Battle With Cancer
Alfred “T-Bone” Hicks - Lit- tle Man with the BIG Boogie, passed last week after losing his battle with cancer.
He was the son of the late Samuel Hicks, Sr. and the late Viola Hicks. He grew up in the Jackson Heights area on McBerry Street. He was a former member of New Salem Primitive Baptist Church, under the pastorage of Rev. Howard and a graduate of Middleton High School, Class of 1969.
As a young teen, “T-Bone,” as most people knew him, was known for one of the DJs that spinned music for the late Charles “Gay Poppa” Miles in the early 70s at Curtis Hixon Hall and Gay Poppa’s Psychedelic Shack, where young teenagers would attend for talent show competitions. He also dee- jayed for several night clubs: Hub Cap, Night Lighter for the late
mond, One Stop Inn, and Manillas. He also was employed with Channel 13 News, and worked with
the Police Althletic League (PAL). On the weekends he worked at WTMP Radio Station, 1968-1971, and he would also attend The Battle
of the DJs.
Later in his adult life he worked
for Melvin The Sign Man for many years.
His hobbies included crabbing and fishing. He was a Bucs fan, and

loved western TV shows. His fa- vorite movie was Life and Kings Of Comedy.
“T-Bone” was a real joker, he would tell you a joke even when you were serious to put a smile on your face.
He has 12 children and a host of family members. The funeral serv- ice will be Saturday, August 15, 2020, entrusted to Integrity Funeral Service, 3822 E. 7th Avenue, Tampa, FL 33605.
