ITF Launches Investigation
Rajon Rondo Fined $25K For Attempting To Trip Jae Crowder
RAJON RONDO
The NBA apparently did not believe Rajon Rondo’s explanation for why he stuck his leg out near a Boston Celtics player during Game 3, as the Chicago Bulls point guard has been fined $25,000.
The league announced on Sunday that Rondo has been fined for attempting to trip Jae Crowder in the first quarter of Chicago’s loss to the Celtics.
Rondo, who is out indefi- nitely with a fractured thumb, stuck his leg out while sitting on the bench after Crowder made a shot near the baseline.
Rondo later claimed he was simply stretching his legs, which he does from time to time since he once had sur- gery to repair a torn ACL.
LeBron, Cavaliers Hold Off Pacers For First-Round Sweep

The Cleveland Cavaliers are moving on to the second round of the NBA playoffs without losing a game.
For the third consecutive season, they rolled over an overmatched opponent in the first round without a blem- ish.
But there was nothing bor- ing about the Cavaliers’ dis- patching of the Indiana Pacers, and there was cer- tainly nothing boring about the fourth quarter of Sun- day’s decisive Game 4 vic- tory, 106-102 in Indianapolis.
After cruising all afternoon and holding the Pacers at arm’s length, the Cavaliers threw away a lead and trailed the Pacers by two with less than 90 seconds remaining.
But LeBron James capped off a brilliant all-around per- formance with a pull-up 3- pointer in Myles Turner’s eye that proved to be the dag- ger.
The Cavaliers then sur- vived a wild final minute that featured two Pacers turnovers, a quite remarkable J.R. Smith behind-the-back pass that went awry.
And a Paul George miss at the buzzer that spared Smith a whole lot of blushes, not to mention criticism and tongue-lashings.
Asked about Smith’s gaffe in his postgame press conference, Cleveland coach Ty Lue let loose a smile and a muffled laugh, and said, “I didn’t see it.”
Into Racist Comment About
Serena Williams' Baby
Last week was a time of celebration for much of the tennis — and, indeed, sports — world. Serena Williams, an athlete many consider the greatest of all time, revealed on Snapchat that she and fi- ance Alexis Ohanian are pregnant with the pair’s first child.
But amid that context, re- ports emerged on Saturday that the International Tennis Federation was launching an investigation into Romanian Captain Ilie Nastase after he allegedly made a deeply racist remark during a Fed Cup press conference.
At a news conference on Saturday to preview the matches in Constanta, Roma- nia’s captain was heard to say
ILIE NASTASE AND SERENA WILLIAMS
of Williams’ baby, due in the fall: “Let’s see what color it has. Chocolate with milk?”
Nastase was not asked about Williams, but he made the comment, in Ro- manian and clearly audible, to the other players while Ro- manian No. 1 Simona Halep was answering a ques- tion about the 23-time grand slam singles champion.
