Cavaliers Officially Waive J. R. Smith After Failing To Find Trade Partner
J. R. SMITH
J. R. Smith’s Cleveland Cavaliers tenure is over.
The Cavaliers officially waived Smith at 5 p.m. ET on Monday, having tried and failed to find a trade partner before reaching that point.
The Cavaliers did everything they could to try to trade Smith, right down to getting him to postpone his guarantee date to try to make a move hap- pen. No matter what Cleveland did, nothing materialized.
Smith will now be free to sign with any team he wants. He barely played last season, and was not in Cleveland’s plans going forward.

Tiger Woods has battled back from a number of signif- icant injuries over the past several years to regain his spot as one of the top golfers in the world, and the concern that he might be hurt again began immediately at The Open Championship on Thursday.
Woods appeared to gri- mace on his first tee shot at Portrush. The shot was pulled and ended up in the tall fes- cue, so it’s possible he was just unhappy with the swing. Still, some saw it as a cause for con- cern.
For what it’s worth, Tiger ended up making an excellent par after his second shot
Mark Cuban has gotten himself fined by the NBA nu- merous times in the past for things he has said, but the lat- est is a bit different from all the others.
ESPN’s Tim MacMahon reports that Cuban has been fined $50,000 by the NBA after he admitted to leaking information from last week’s Board of Governor meeting to a reporter. The fine was not announced publicly, but a memo was sent to teams and Cuban made a sarcastic re- mark to MacMahon about it.
“I appreciate the irony of your reporting on a fine that someone should, but won’t, get fined for leaking to you,” he said.
Apparently Sacramento Kings owner Vivek Ranadive expressed concern to the league that information about owners moving to allow

coaches’ challenges next sea- son was trickling out while ex- ecutives were still meeting about it. Cuban immediately admitted he was the one who leaked the info, and that’s where the fine stems from.
The $50,000 fine is noth- ing compared to some of the penalties Cuban has had to pay in the past, and that prob- ably gives you an idea of how serious the violation was — or, in this case, wasn’t.

ended up in a bunker.
Tiger has chosen not to
play much since he won the Masters back in April, and that has led to speculation that he could be hurting and trying to allow himself as much recovery time as possi- ble.
Ben Simmons Agrees To Max Extension With 76ers
As has been widely ex- pected, Ben Simmons has agreed to a max contract ex- tension with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Simmons’ agent Rich Paul told The Athletic that Simmons has agreed to the five-year, $170 million max deal he was eligible for, lock- ing him down in Philadelphia long-term.
This had been a formality for roughly two weeks and maybe even longer. Sim- mons is a key part of the Six- ers’ future and they’ve planned around himbecom- ing one of their go-to players.

Simmons turns 23 next week. He’s coming off a sea- son which saw him average 17.8 points, 9.3 rebounds, and 8.1 assists as the Sixers came frustratingly close to reaching the Eastern Confer- ence Finals.
