REFLECTIVELY IF MAMA COULD SEE US NOW
MRS. LEILA S. WILLIAMS August 22, 2002
In retrospect, preparing to return to school for another year marked the ending of summertime fun; going shopping for new school clothes and separating the ones you can’t wear again because you have outgrown them; and getting ready to return to the classroom with new teachers, friends and grade placement was an exciting time in our household.
Our Mama would give us encour- aging words such as “learn all we can and do well in your lessons.” Our Daddy would tell each of us, “to behave yourself and mind those teachers at that school, and get some learning so you could grow up and get a good job!”
How well do we remember those days!
In amazement, Mama has been gone for fifteen years! Many things have changed in our lives and in this world. We often wonder, if Mama could see us now, what would she say?
In yesteryear, a tune entitled “If Ma Could See Me Now” was recorded by two Irish singers, The Swarbriggs. The lyrics are thought provoking: “...Drinking my wine, smoking my cigarettes; would she accept all the changes in me? What in the world would she say? Could I explain my present state? Isn’t it strange the way people change, we never stay the same. Remembering just like yester- day, I still wonder why God would not let her stay...If Ma Could See Me Now!”
Well, Mama is safe in the arms of the Lord, her spirit is alive and well. Optimistically speaking, her loving eyes are still on each of us; as she often reminded us through song, “When Jesus is my portion, a con- stant Friend is He, His eye is on the sparrow and I know He watches me.”
Assuredly, as written in Proverbs 15:3, “The eyes of the LORD are in every place keeping watch on the evil and the good.”
With God in my life, I know I will see Mama again. Until then, “I sing because I’m happy; I sing because I’m free; His eye is on this sparrow; and I know He watches me.”
Goodnight Mama, we will see you in the morning!
Your loving children, Juanita, Leatricia, Earliest, Valretha, Maggie, Norma, and Michele, and grandchil- dren.
MISSING YOU ALWAYS
PRESTON EUGENE LIVINGSTON Born: March 11, 1968 — Demise: August 21, 2016
You never said I’m leaving, you never said goodbye. You were gone before we knew it, and only God knows why
In life I loved you dearly, in death I love you still; in my heart I hold a place, that only you can fill.
It broke my heart to lose you. But you didn’t go alone, a part of me went with you, the day God took you home.
Sadly missed by: Patricia Cannon, your children and your family.
