Family Devastated
22-Year-Old Man Charged With First-Degree Murder
Over Murder
Of Young Mom

On Wednesday night, a young woman died after being shot. The shooting took place at an apartment complex in North Tampa.
Ms. Ku’Myra Ya’Meen Collins was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Gwandoya (Sebrina) Collins and Freddie Jones, Jr. The 18-year-old was the youngest of a blended family of 4 children.
During a telephone inter- view, Mrs. Collins and Ku’Myra’s godmother, Ms. Melita LaFavor- Stephens, shared their memories about the young mother.
A native of Tampa, Ms. Collins attended the public schools of Hillsborough County, including West Uni- versity Charter School. She loved dancing and was a for- mer cheerleader.
The young lady enjoyed spending time with her nieces and nephews. She loved to bake, and she had planned to launch a cupcake business.

Police have arrested a 22- year-old man and accused him of committing a murder. The incident took place around 10:30 p.m., last Wednesday night.

The women said the death of the young mother has “just devastated” her family.
The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office arrested De- montrey Jarquez Jack- son, 22, and charged him with the fatal shooting. He is facing a charge of premedi- tated first-degree murder with a firearm.

Sheriff’s Office activated the SWAT team and after secur- ing the area, the body of an 18-year-old woman was found inside the apartment. The suspect had fled the scene by the time police arrived.
The woman died as a re- sult of her injuries.
During the investigation, police identified Demontrey Jarquez Jackson as the
suspect and a warrant was is- sued for his arrest. He was taken into custody early Thursday morning in the Rocky Point area of Tampa by U. S. Marshals.
Jackson was charged with first-degree premediated murder with a firearm. He is being held at the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, with a bond set at $250,000 and must wear a GPS moni- tor.
Unidentified Man Fatally Wounded At Apartment Complex
Detectives are currently investigating the second mur- der in two days at the same apartment complex. The sec- ond murder took place Friday night.
According to the Hillsbor- ough County Sheriff’s Office, detectives launched a homi- cide investigation at the Wil- low Brooke Apartments, in Tampa.
On Friday, just before 10:00 p.m., deputies were dispatched to the 14000 block of Hellenic Drive, lo- cated in the Brooke Willow Apartment Complex, after re- ports of shots being fired. When deputies arrived at the scene, they located the body of an adult man, inside one of the apartments. The uniden- tified man suffered upper body trauma.

“Unrelated from each other, this is the second
homicide this apartment community has faced in less than a week. We are urging anyone who knows some- thing about this case to please come forward and help us find these criminals. At this time we do not believe this was a random act and the vic- tim appears to have been tar- geted.”
No additional information about the victim or the mur- der has been released by po- lice.
