A Jesuit High School senior signed his commit- ment to attend West Point last Wednesday (December 18th), College Signing Day for high school students.
Spencer Williams will be headed to West Point once his senior year is completed.
Spencer, the son of Caroll and Felecia Williams, has education on his mind just as his father, “Frisky” Williams, and grandfather, known as “Root” Williams.
Tyrone Keys, CEO of All Sports Community Serv- ice (ASCS), was there to wit- ness Spencer’s signing, just as he witnessed the signing of Spencer’s father in 1997, when he signed with Depauw University. Keys described it as “tears of joy.”
Keys recalled Caroll, also known as “Frisky,” growing up in the public housing complex next to Robinson High School – Rembrandt – to hard-work- ing parents.
A former instructor of
“Frisky’s,” Mrs. Dye, says she recalls being told that Caroll was a handful.
“I never listen to what others think of my students,” she said. She was his teacher at Lanier. “Their father worked hard during those years...as a result, Caroll had work to do at home.
“He is one of the students I think of often...I am so proud of him and the life he has made for himself and to have raised a son that has achieved so much...You did well, Caroll.”
“I just have ‘tears of joy.’ When the deck is shuffled, it
only makes sense spiritual and Biblical -- this story is the outcome that we all are one, as it takes a village.
Thank you all for being part of this root to fruit jour- ney,” Keys stated. He ex- presses gratitude for the role so many souls played in help- ing Caroll Williams achieve his dream in 1997 of signing with DePauw Univer- sity. Keys has another reason for his “tears of joy:” Spencer played for his for- mer Mississippi State Univer- sity teammate, Mike McEnany at Jesuit High School.
