Tampa Man Arrested After Taking Hostages In Bank Robbery
NICHOLAS DEQUAN HUMPHREY
The Jacksonville Police De- partment ended a hostage situ- ation peacefully last Thursday and arrested a Tampa man. The incident took place in the Com- munity First Credit Union.
Police said 23-year-old
Nicholas Dequan Humphrey had put a gun to the back of the head of one of his hostages. There were ap- proximately a dozen people in the credit union when the inci- dent began.
However, police said there were two other people hiding and Humphrey didn’t know they were there. The two people made a run for it and distracted Humphrey.
The distraction allowed po- lice to enter the building and peacefully bring the situation to an end. The stand-off had lasted two hours with 11 hostages inside the building.
Humphrey was taken into custody and charged, police said.
Mr. Andre James Wilds, member of a promi- nent West Tampa family, was found deceased in his home last Friday. He was 64 years old.
Wilds was born on De- cember 21, 1952 to the late Jetie B. Wilds, Sr. and Minnie Lee Wilds, of Tampa. He was the eighth of twelve children.

After graduating from high school, Andre attended a Vo- cational School where he earned his construction li- cense. He became involved
with the Ybor City Boys and Girls Club where he worked as the Workshop instructor. He was also one of the coaches of the Bantum team of the Tampa Eagles’ Football Association where he was af- fectionately called “Coach Andre.”
Andre was known as a very talented builder by his family and friends. He worked in Miami as a con- tractor after Hurricane An- drew, where he helped in rebuilding many homes and buildings that had been de- stroyed during the storm.
He was the father of six children. He also has 29 grandchildren and 12 great- grandchildren along with a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends.
