Serena Williams Mocked In Racist Cartoon After U. S. Open Loss
   At Nightclub In Miami
As Holdout Continues
Although Serena Williams lost the U. S. Open to Naomi Osaka Sat- urday (Sept. 8) it was Williams’ confrontation with umpire Carlos Ramos that has caused a divide in the tennis world.
Ramos accused Williams of receiving tips from her coach on the side- lines, to which she said, “I don’t cheat to win, I’d rather lose.” Williams was then cited twice more, once for smashing her racket and again for engaging in a heated exchange with Ramos, which ultimately cost her the game. As a re- sult, the 36-year-old was fined $17,000. She was also made fun of for her actions in a racist cartoon.
Mark Knight’s illustra- tion depicts an overweight big lipped Williams with a baby’s pacifier not too far
media to call out Knight’s racist and sexist cartoon. Tennis Legend Billie Jean King, who has 12 Grand Slam Titles of her own, sided with Williams and said men have always been able to express frustration on the tennis court.
“When a woman is emo- tional, she’s ‘hysterical’ and she’s penalized for it. When a man does the same, he’s ‘outspoken’ and there are no repercussions,” King said.
However, Richard Ing a former umpire professional says Williams needs to apologize.
“The decisions made by Ramos had nothing to do with sexism or racism. They had everything to do with observing clear breaches of the grand slam code of con- duct and then having the courage to call them without fear or favor.”
Le’Veon Bell chose to continue his holdout by skip- ping Week 1 of the regular season, and it would appear he will be taking that same approach ahead of the Pitts- burgh Steelers’ second game of the year.
Missing 2 games will total up to $1.7 million.
As his teammates prepare for another week of practice and meetings, Bell was spot- ted hanging out at a nightclub in Miami late Monday night into early Tuesday morning.
Bell reportedly arrived at Rockwell in South Beach at around midnight and hung around the DJ booth. He even posed for some photos with fans.

Osaka, who’s a half Japanese and half Haitian woman with visibly cinna- mon colored skin, is depicted as a white, blonde hair frail girl.
