Cam Newton Benched In Back-To-Back Games; Play Bills Sunday
CAM NEWTON
Cam Newton has been benched once again.
Newton was replaced by Carolina Panthers backup P.J. Walker during the first half of Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. Panthers head coach Matt Rhule made the switch after New- ton threw a brutal pick-six.
Newton was 6/11 for 88 yards and the interception at the time he came out. He also had 33 rushing yards and a score. The benching was not permanent, as he came back in during the second half. Un- fortunately, things did not go much better for him.
The Panthers seemed very optimistic about Newton after they signed him, but ul- timately he has looked like the same player that was cut by the New England Patriots be- fore the season. Newton can still make a few plays with his legs here and there, but he simply can’t throw the ball downfield consistently any- more.
Sunday’s game was only Newton’s third start since he rejoined the Panthers. He was also benched last week, when he completed just 5 of 21 passes for 92 yards, no touch- downs and two interceptions in a loss to the Miami Dol- phins. Carolina’s long-term plan for Newton has proba- bly changed.
The Panthers play the Buf- falo Bills Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Denver Broncos Honor Demaryius Thomas With Only 10 Men On The Field For First Snap
Denver Broncos players kneel on a painted tribute to for- mer Denver Broncos wide receiver Demaryius Thomas.
   BEAUTY UNLIMITED
   TIERA
This week’s Beauty Unlimited feature is Tiera, and she’s ready to just jump off the page because her energy level is so high. Tiera is very much in touch with who she is, and she understands her limitations. She’s also grateful for the experience she has gained, and appreciates having a venue to list her achievements. Congrat- ulations to Tiera as this week’s Beauty Unlimited feature.
After Demaryius Thomas’s tragic death in the shower of his Roswell, Geor- gia home last Thursday, it was easy to see how much he meant to his fellow NFL play- ers, as several current and former players expressed their sadness via social media.
In particular, it really hit home for the Denver Bron- cos, as the 33-year-old was their star wide receiver for them from 2010-2018.
On the first possession for the Broncos in Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, the team decided to honor Thomas in a moving way...
After the opening kickoff, the offense trotted onto the field, except this time, they only came on with 10 guys, leaving that one open spot at wide receiver in remem- brance of Thomas.
Starting wide receiver Courtland Sutton could be seen taking a knee on the sidelines, honoring the late great.
Once the fans realized what was going on, a fero-
cious “DT” chant could be heard echoing throughout Mile High Stadium.
This was the second way the Broncos honored DT, as Sutton and fellow wide re- ceiver Tim Patrick paused in the tunnel before coming out in memory.
The whole stadium then took a moment of silence for the man as well.
LaTonya Bonseigneur, a cousin who was close to Thomas, told The Associ- ated Press that Thomas had been "suffering from seizures for over a year."
Though the family isn't sure when Thomas died, they believe his death may have been related to a seizure.
"We believe he had a seizure when he was shower- ing," Bonseigneur said.
Thomas was just 15 days shy of his 34th birthday on Christmas Day.
The 33-year-old played 10 seasons in the NFL, primarily with the Denver Broncos.
In 2015, Thomas won a Super Bowl with the Broncos and earned four Pro Bowls in a Broncos uniform.
