Man Arrested After Hitting Officer With Car
A 43-year-old man was ar- rested and charged with at- tempted murder on a law enforcement officer. The charge came about after a man hit a police officer with his vehicle.
According to police, Offi- cer Matthew Holm, 32, of the Indian Shores Police De- partment, made a traffic stop in front of 19540 Gulf Blvd., Tuesday.
Officer Holm stopped the 2017 Nissan Altima after he observed it and a 2012 Mazda3 driving at a high rate of speed.
The driver of the Nissan, identified as Ms. Brittney Mikus, stopped her vehicle. Officer Holm pulled behind it and exited his patrol car.
Officer Holm motioned for the driver of the Mazda3, identified as Stephan J. Weekley to pull over to the side of the road.
Weekley reportedly
slowed down
briefly, then
accelerated
directly to-
wards Offi-
cer Holm,
intentionally
hitting him
and knock-
ing him to
the ground.
During the incident, Officer Holm obtained his service revolver and fired 4 shots at the Mazda3.
Weekley fled the scene. The vehicle was abandoned near 5th Avenue, after deputies deployed a tire de- flation device. However, Weekley was gone. He was later located by K-9 deputies in the area of the Indian Rocks Nature preserve, and arrested.
Officer Holm was trans- ported to Largo Medical Cen- ter for treatment. The investigation is continuing.
