Wrong Way Driver Involved In 2 Hit And Runs Arrested
Two Students Charged With Gun-Related Crimes
A 43-year-old man was arrested early Wednesday after police were alerted to a wrong-way driver. The inci- dent took place on the Vet- eran’s Expressway.
According to police, sev- eral witnesses called 9-1-1 to report the driver was travel- ing southbound in the north- bound lanes.
A description of the vehi- cle was given and officers, along with Air Service began searching for the car. As the search continued, police learned of a crash on the Vet- eran’s Expressway near I- 275, where the suspected vehicle fled without stop- ping.
As officers were en route to the first accident, they re- ceived a report of another ac- cident involving the same vehicle. That accident took place in the area of S. Dale Mabry and Horatio. The driver fled the scene after the crash.
DANIEL LIVOTI
A short time later, the ve- hicle was located in a drive- thru at McDonald’s near S. Dale Mabry and El Prado. When police made contact with the driver, he reportedly showed signs of impairment.
After conducting a DUI investigation, the driver, identified as Daniel Livoti, of Clearwater, was arrested and charged with DUI and hit and run.
No injuries as a result of the accidents were reported to police. The investigation is continuing, police said.
Two Hillsborough County students were arrested last week. In separate incidents, both were charged with crimes involving a firearm. The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigated both incidents.
The first incident took place at Lennard High School. The unidentified 15- year-old student was charged with possession of a weapon on school property, (felony), and disturbing the peace school function, (misde- meanor).
Police said the HCSO School Resource Deputy as- signed to Lennard High School received information of a possible weapon on cam- pus. He immediately had the school suspend the bells so students would not be moving on campus.
The unidentified deputy and school administrators quickly identified the student. They found and secured a pellet gun in the student’s backpack. The pellet gun was
loaded and functional.
The incident resulted in a
major disruption of the nor- mal operation of the school.
The unidentified student was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
The second incident took place at Newsome High School. In this incident, po- lice learned about it from a post on social media.
According to police, at ap- proximately 10 p.m., last Wednesday, unknown white male was shown on Snapchat social media holding a black assault rifle style firearm. A caption on the photo read: “Don’t come to school tomor- row.”
The photograph was shared through Snapchat sev- eral times and the original screen name was not legible, police said.
During the investigation, detectives learned the student may be enrolled at Newsome High School. Detectives iden- tified a 9th grade student as
the person in the photograph and went to his home.
The student and his par- ents were cooperative and showed deputies the assault rifle, which was determined to be a very realistic Airsoft rifle.
After being read his rights, the unidentified student ad- mitted taking the picture and posting it on Snapchat with the caption. He reportedly told police it was meant as a joke between his friends and he was not going to hurt any- one.
The student was arrested for a false report to use firearms in a violent manner (second degree felony) and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
