In the strongest sign yet that they plan to select a quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the draft, the Tampa Bay Buccaneers re- leased veteran Josh Mc- Cown on Wednesday night.
McCown, 35, was Tampa Bay’s starter during last year’s 2-14 season. He missed five games with a thumb injury, but his starting job was given back to him even though Mike Glennon played rea- sonably well in his absence.
McCown completed 184 of 327 passes (56.3 percent) for 2,206 yards with 11 touch- downs and 14 interceptions for a 70.5 passer rating. The Bucs won only one game with McCown as their starter. McCown previously said he would be fine with staying
The president is proud of the way that the Jackie Robinson West Little League team represented their city and the way they repre- sented the country.
MALCOLM BUTLER
NORWOOD, Mass. — Super Bowl hero Malcolm Butler smiled to the cameras and reached out his hands to mimic an interception in front of the new red Chevrolet Col- orado truck he received Tues- day.
It was a lighthearted mo- ment as Butler happily took ownership of the truck thanks to New England Patriots quar- terback Tom Brady’s gen- erosity.
Brady, as the MVP of Super Bowl XLIX, was sup- posed to drive away with the truck. But Brady asked Chevrolet if Butler could have the vehicle instead, and the of- ficial presentation took place Tuesday about eight miles north of the team’s home stadium at a car dealer- ship.

with the Bucs as a mentor to a rookie. He was scheduled to earn $5 million in 2015.
Glennon had the same number of wins as McCown, and it’s not likely the Bucs will look to him to be more than a backup.
The Bucs have the first pick in the draft, and all indica- tions are they will use it on a quarterback, likely Jameis Winston or Marcus Mari- ota.

Little League International stripped the Chicago team’s U.S. title Wednesday, after months of allegations about Jackie Robinson West officials using ineligible players and il- legally redrawing the league boundaries. The team JRW put on the field won the U.S. title before losing to South Korea in the international final. Still, they won the hearts of Chicago and even cele- brated at the White House.
While debate rages about whether Little League did the right thing, the White House said Wednesday that the pres- ident is still proud of the
Jackie Robinson West kids, whom he met last November in the Oval Office.
White House Press Secre- tary Josh Earnest told the Chicago Sun Times’ Lynn Sweet: “The fact is, you know, some dirty dealing by some adults doesn’t take any- thing away from the accom- plishments of those young men.”
Earnest was asked if there was any message to the boys.
Ernest replied, ” I think what the president would say is that — that, again, the ac- tions of those adults doesn’t in any way take away — does not in any way take away from the accomplishments of those young men who performed brilliant on the baseball dia- mond on a pretty large stage.
Bucs’ Lovie Smith Reportedly Favors Jameis Winston For No. 1 Pick
LOVIE SMITH And JAMEIS WINSTON

Buccaneers coach Lovie Smith favors Florida State quarterback Jameis Win- ston over Oregon’s Marcus Mariota for the No. 1 overall draft pick, according to ESPN’s Pat Yasinskas.
The idea is Winston would be more familiar with Smith’s system because the QB ran a pro-style offense in college, as opposed to the spread offense Mariota ran.
Smith recently
Dirk Koetter as his offen- sive coordinator over Marc Trestman. Smith and Trestman have similar of- fensive philosophies, but Trestman preferred Mari- ota, according to the report.
Yasinkas did point out he’s heard how Winston is the current favorite, and that it’s not to say Tampa won’t change its mind.
