Bruce Arians: Jameis Winston Played As Well As He’s Played All Year
Lamar Jackson, Ravens
The much-maligned Buc- caneers quarterback Jameis Winston still has a strong backer in his head coach.
Tampa Bay head coach Bruce Arians said after today’s overtime loss to the Seahawks that he was thrilled with the way Winston played today.
“Jameis played as good as he’s played all year,” Ari- ans said.
touchdowns and no intercep- tions. He did lose a fumble, but Arians said that Win- ston showed a good ability to read the Seahawks’ defense.
Unfortunately, the Bucca- neers’ defense couldn’t stop Russell Wilson, and a game Tampa Bay had opportunities to win turned into a 40-34 loss.
But Arians saw progress from his quarterback, even if he didn’t eat a W.
Cam Newton Out Several More Weeks, Could Be Placed On IR
CAM NEWTON
Quarterback Cam New- ton’s foot injury has kept him off the field for the Carolina Panthers since Week 3, and it looks like there’s no end in sight.
According to NFL Net- work’s Ian Rapoport, New- ton’s Lisfranc injury has not fully healed, and he’ll be out at least another few weeks — if not more.
The Panthers released an update about Newton on Fri- day, revealing that he would be traveling to Wisconsin to see Dr. Robert Anderson, a foot specialist and former team physician, about his foot.
Rapoport reported that Newton has to decide how to proceed with his recovery. The Panthers beat the Tennessee Titans, 30-20.

JAMEIS WINSTON
Quarterback Lamar Jackson delivered the most monumental victory of his career, and the Baltimore Ravens can stake their claim to being the AFC's best team.
Before a national televi- sion audience, the Ravens stomped the undefeated and defending Super Bowl cham- pion New England Patriots, 37-20, on the strength of Jackson's elusiveness, a punishing running game and an opportunistic defense.
Jackson ran for two touchdowns and threw for another, which caused the sellout crowd at M&T Bank Stadium to serenade him with chants of "MVP" in the game's final minutes. Side- stepping and slashing past a defense that stacked the box, he finished with 224 yards of total offense, throwing for 163 yards and rushing for 61.
The Ravens scored four offensive touchdowns against a New England defense that had allowed only four offen- sive touchdowns in its first eight games. Baltimore also scored 37 points against a

team that hadn't allowed more than 14 in a game this season. Jackson's record as a starter improved to 12-3, but none of those victories have been more impressive than this one. Jackson and the Ravens upset the NFL's most decorated quarterback and coach as well as a de- fense off to a historic start.
Baltimore not only showed that it belongs in the same class as New England, but the Ravens are threaten- ing the Patriots' hold on the AFC's top seed at the midway point of the season. The Ravens (6-2) are 1.5 games back of the Patriots for home-field advantage throughout the playoffs.
Deliver Landmark Win Over
Vented About Baker
Mayfield Not Throwing
Odell Beckham vented about not getting the ball after Baker Mayfield did not throw to him on a failed 4th-and-4 play in the Cleve- land Browns’ 24-19 loss to the Denver Broncos on Sunday, according to a reporter.
Cleveland was down by five and had a 4th-and-4 after losing yardage on a third down running play. They spread out the formation and Mayfield threw incomplete over the middle to Jarvis Landry with just over three minutes left.
CBS replays showed that Beckham had beaten Chris Harris, Jr. on the left side of the field, but Mayfield didn’t throw to him. After the pass fell incomplete, CBS reporter Jay Feely says Beckham

vented that he couldn’t “get the ball to save my life.”
It’s hard to blame him. He was open and Mayfield did- n’t throw to him. That could have been the go-ahead touchdown.
Had they converted the fourth down play, Beckham might not have been as upset, but since they did not, he had a right to be frustrated.
Byron Leftwich Hopes
He’s Still Coaching Jameis
Winston Next Year
Tampa Bay Buccaneers quarterback Jameis Win- ston’s future is in doubt as he’s quarterbacked Tampa Bay to a 2-5 record in this, the fifth and final year of his rookie contract. But his of- fensive coordinator doesn’t want him to go anywhere.
Tampa Bay offensive co- ordinator Byron Leftwich told the Tampa Bay Times he believes Winston is the Bucs’ best option in 2020.
That, of course, isn’t up to Leftwich. The front office may disagree, and Winston may also want to see what his options are in free agency.
JAMEIS WINSTON AND BYRON LEFTWICH
The Buccaneers could pre- vent Winston from testing the waters by putting the franchise tag on him, but the franchise tag for quarter- backs next year is expected to be about $27 million.
