The Evangelical And GOP Enablers
oes anyone know the name of a church that
President Trump has ever attended or cur- rently attends on a regular basis? Listening to a late night religious television show recently, Frances and Friends, one of our writers observed a lesson in the ignorance that seems to be pervasive in America.
The host, guests, and callers to the program set a new standard for lack of intelligence. One of the callers thought that Trump had “spunk” for killing the Iranian general and another caller said there is no more hate in America like it used to be.
One of the guests, a Black man, said that a large number of Black voters would be voting for Trump in 2020 because the Democrats hadn’t done any- thing for Blacks.
Never mind. They probably don’t know the name of Trump’s church, either. Strangely, the evangelical leaders have never raised their voices questioning Trump’s infidelity, his use of profane language, his attacks on the disabled, the name-calling, the thou- sands of lies being told, treatment of immigrants and their children, and his apparent association with liars, crooks and jail birds.
Remaining quiet about his behavior is considered to be enabling and encouraging Trump to continue the same behavior. Neither they nor the GOP have called Trump out for his unethical behavior.
By no stretch of the imagination will hate disap- pear from this planet as long as we have religious and political enablers of hateful acts. By the way, wasn’t Jesus’s visit here about Love? We don’t think certain evangelicals got Jesus’s message.
When He comes again, there will be few churches He will award blessings to for their lives of love. We wouldn’t be welcome in their sanctuaries anyway.
