Pervis Staples, founding member of the legendary group the Staples Singers, had died at 86 years old.
According to PEOPLE, he passed away at his Dolton, Illinois home on May 6. A cause of death is not known.
His sister Mavis Staples said in a statement to Rolling Stone, “Pervis was one of a kind — comical and down- right fly. He would want to be remembered as an upright man, always willing to help and encourage others. He was one of the good guys and will live on as a true Chicago leg- end."
Mavis Staples is the last surviving member of the fam- ily's musical group.

TV Show 'All Rise' Cancelled
Black-ish To End With Season 8 At ABC
All Rise’s court proceed- ings will not reconvene at a later date: CBS has cancelled the legal drama after two sea- sons.
The season (and now se- ries) finale is slated to air Monday, May 24. CBS also cancelled the Walton Gog- gins comedy The Unicorn after two seasons.
All Rise’s second season was somewhat marred by the firing of creator/co-showrun- ner Greg Spottiswood this winter following an additional
investigation into allegations of unprofessional conduct. Spottiswood first came under fire when several writ- ers of color exited during Sea- son 1 over the series’ depiction of race and gender.
Black-ish, starring Anthony Anderson and Tracee Ellis Ross, debuted on ABC in 2014.
Black-ish’s Dre and Bow soon will take their final bow: ABC has renewed the family comedy for an eighth and final season, series creator Kenya Barris announced Friday.
“The people in the world I love, honor, respect and care for it is both exciting and bit- tersweet to share that black- ish been RENEWED by ABC for it’s EIGHTH... and FINAL SEASON,” Barris posted to Instagram. “In this day and age it is rare to get to decide when your show should come to an end, and we are grateful along with ABC to be able to make this final season exactly
what we’d hoped for – and to do it with the entire and AMAZINGLY STELLAR cast coming back to close this chapter out with us the right way!”
Heading into its season fi- nale, black-ish is averaging 2.4 million total viewers and just shy of a 0.5 demo rating — down 8 and 17 percent from its Season 6 numbers.
Out of the seven sitcoms ABC has aired this TV season, it ranks No. 4 in the demo (be- hind The Goldbergs, The Con- ners and American Housewife) and sixth in total audience.
