A 20-year-old man was arrested in connection with a murder that took place in January. He was arrested Thursday on an active war- rant.
According to the Tampa Police Department, Xavier K. Felton was charged with first-degree murder, tamper- ing with physical evidence, and shooting into an occu- pied vehicle. The murder took place on January 3, 2022, in the 8400 block of Rio Bravo Court, in the Riv- iera Apartments.
Officers responded to re- ports of a shooting at the complex shortly after 2 p. m. When they arrived, they learned that an unidentified man was driving in the com- plex, when he exchanged gunfire with an individual in another vehicle. The victim was driving near the entrance of the complex when the

shooting took place. The vic- tim sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The victim was lying next to a silver Nissan Altima, which had multiple apparent bullet holes in the driver’s side.
During the investigation, police located several shell casings were found on the roadway. Several more shell casings were located inside
the vehicle. The investigation indicated that the victim was fired upon, and returned fire.
A witness stated that a red vehicle was driving behind the victim’s car, toward the exit of the apartment com- plex when the red vehicle pulled alongside the victim’s car and gunfire erupted from the passenger side.
Through investigative techniques, detectives were able to identify the vehicle and locate video surveillance that showed the vehicle in the area for several minutes be- fore the homicide. A camera captured video through the windshield of the red vehicle, which showed the front seat passenger, later identified as Xavier Felton.
This was the third murder Tampa Police investigated in a single day of the New Year.
The investigation is con- tinuing.
Police are currently inves- tigating a traffic accident that has left one person dead. The accident took place Saturday night near the intersection of Trapnell Road and Turkey Creek Road.
According to the Tampa Police Department, officers observed a stolen vehicle at the intersection of E. Chelsea and N. 26th Street, around 10:45 p. m.
The officers attempted to make a traffic stop, but the driver of the black Nissan fled the scene. A pursuit was initi- ated and the suspect vehicle fled eastbound on Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., Blvd.
The driver continued on at a high rate of speed into the county towards Plant City. The driver turned southbound
on Turkey Creek Road, and at that point, struck a Honda sedan from behind. The im- pact forced the Honda into a telephone pole.
The three people inside the Honda were taken to the hos- pital. The 44-year-old woman riding in the car died as a re- sult of her injuries. A 24-year- old woman was seriously injured, and a 30-year old man was in stable condition.
There were four male teenagers in the stolen Nissan, a 15-year-old, a 12-year-old, and 2 14-year-olds. Two of them received minor injuries and were transported to a local hospital, police said.
The investigation into the accident is continuing. No ad- ditional information has been released by police.
Registered Sex Offender Facing Two Separate Murder Charges

Detectives have charged a registered sex offender with two unrelated murders. Both murders took place last year.
According to the Tampa Police Department, detectives investigated the death of Ms. Linda Harris. Ms. Harris’ body was discovered in an abandoned home set for dem- olition on September 27th. Construction workers found the body while conducting a walk-through before tearing the structure down. The house was located in the 1800 block of E. Sligh Avenue.

Medical Examiner ruled the death was a homicide.
On November 2nd, Tampa Police officers responded to the area of 9th Street and Fair- banks Avenue in Sulphur Springs. When they arrived at the scene, they discovered the body of a 25-year-old tran- sient woman known as “Jenny.” The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner also ruled her death as a mur- der.
Detectives developed 40- year-old Damien Marshall as a person of interest in both murders.

Through the use of sur- veillance, DNA, and various other investigative techniques at their disposal, they devel- oped probable cause to charge Marshall with both murders.
Marshall was arrested on November 16th, and was being held at the Hillsbor- ough County Jail on violation of probation and charges re- lated to failure to register as a sex offender. He has since been charged with the two counts of first-degree murder.
The investigation is con- tinuing.
