Funerals/Memoriams
Jessie M. Davis was born Oc- tober 4, 1921 in Winchester, Ken- tucky to the late Jesse and Rosetta Davis. She attended the public schools in Winchester and gradu- ated from Oliver High School in 1939.
Jessie was converted at an early age and was baptized at St. James CME Church in Winches- ter. After graduating from high school, Jessie attended Florida Agricultural and Mechanical Uni- versity (FAMU) where she earned a Degree in Elementary Educa- tion. She also became a member of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
While attending FAMU, Jessie met the late Dr. James D. Davis and they were later married dur- ing 1944 in Washington, D. C. Jessie spent most of her time with her family and always encouraged and supported her children to do their best.
Jessie had a successful career, after the passing of Dr. Davis in 1954, as an elementary school teacher. She was very devoted to her students and tried to provide the best education possible, such as after school tutoring of stu- dents, who needed extra time to master the lesson. Jessie touched numerous students at Lomax, Potter and Cleveland Elementary Schools, and a number of them have expressed that she was their best teacher.
As an Alpha Kappa Alpha, Inc. woman, Jessie was a member of the Gamma Theta Omega gradu- ate chapter in Tampa, FL. She served for many years and was on a number of committees. Jessie was also a member of St. Luke AME Church, where she served on the Stewardess Board, Choir, Ush- ers and special activities commit- tee. She was devoted to God and his Word.
There will be a viewing on Fri- day October 27, 2017 from 5 – 8 p. m. with the family present from 6 – 7 p. m. at Wilson Funeral Home, 3000 N. 29th Street, Tampa, Florida. AKA Sorority service will follow at 7 p. m.

A Homegoing Celebration for Deacon John E. Miller, Sr. of Tampa, who passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2017, will be held on Saturday, Octo- ber28,2017at11a.m. atSt. John Cathedral, 3401 Eddie Newkirk Way (3401 25th Av- enue), Tampa, FL, Pastor Dwight Newkirk with Pastor Rochester Jacobs, Sr., of BRYCG Christian Center, officiating eulogist. In- terment will follow in Rest Haven Memorial Park Cemetery.
He was preceded in death by: his parents, Zack and Evelyn Mc- Call Miller; brothers, Waymon, David and Willie Miller; sisters, Bobbie J. Marshall and Martha Wright.

Deacon John E Miller, Sr. was a native of Eufaula, AL. He was born on January 2, 1944 to the parentage of Zack and Evelyn McCall Miller. He was educated in Eufaula, AL. Deacon Miller re- tired from the City of Tampa Sanitation Department after 31 years of service and 8 years with Hillsborough County Schools. He was the manager of the Trav- eling Stars and a member of the Gospel Legends.
There will be a visitation on Friday, October 27, 2017 from St. John Cathedral from 5–8 p. m. with the family present to re- ceive friends from 6–8 p. m.
Friends are asked to assem- ble at the church on Saturday at approximately 10:45 a. m. for the service.

Interment will follow in Rose Hill Cemetery, Tampa, FL.
She was preceded in death by: her husband, Deacon Robert Lee Dorsey, Sr.; her twin brother, Harold Lloyd Montana; her sis- ter, Elice Montana Sledge; other siblings and loved ones.

Helen Montana Dorsey was born April 18, 1933 in Tampa, Florida. She attended the public schools of Tampa, graduating from Middleton Senior High School. In 1956 she married Robert Lee Dorsey, Sr. and the Lord added 5 children to their union. She retired from Hillsbor- ough County Public Schools as a Teacher’s Aide and opened Helen Home Day Care which she suc- cessfully operated for more than 10 years.
The visitation will be held from 5–8 p. m. and the family will receive friends from 6–7 p. m. on Thursday, October 26, 2017 at the 34th Street Church of God, 3000 N. 34th Street, Tampa, Florida 33605.
