LOUISVILLE, KY -- Louisville, Kentucky high school freshman LaRon (Ron Ron) Tunstill, Jr. is finding new ways to bring pos- itivity to his community. On Labor Day, Ron Ron was on the West Side of Louisville with PURPMe, a non-profit dedicated to performing kind acts throughout the commu- nity, when he noticed a home- less man wearing shoes with holes in them.
What he did next was be- yond inspiring. "So I started looking at what he had on, and I was like, 'you got no shoes,'" Tunstill told WDRB. Ron Ron took off his new Nike

high-tops and gave them to the homeless man.
Jason Reynolds, the founder of the PURPMe, told CNN that the soles of the shoes "were completely gone,” and that "his toes literally
touched the ground.” PURP is an organization that’s “dedi- cated to help kids find their purpose."
They were doing homeless outreach when Ron Ron de- cided to donate his shoes to the man in need. "You got 14- year-old kids out here shoot- ing and killing people, and Ron Ron decides he's going to give his own shoes," said Reynolds while filming the video on his phone.
After the video went viral, Reynolds created a Go- fundme campaign to support PURP. 100% of the proceeds will go toward helping more kids like Tunstill.

With more and more Black millennials push- ing back against the racism at predominantly white institutions, the appeal of Historically Black Colleges and Uni- versities is growing.
This year alone, black student unions sent de- mand letters to their institu- tions seeking housing for black students, an increase in finan- cial support, and even the re- naming of buildings that were once owned by slaves. With these slow improvements, col- lege-bound individuals are looking deeper into educa- tional options at HBCUs.
Walter M. Kimbrough, president of the historically Black Dillard University, praised the HBCU enrollment spike in a Washington Post ar- ticle. "Freshman enrollment is up 49 percent at Shaw Univer- sity, 39 percent at South Car- olina State, 32 percent at Tuskegee University, 30 per- cent at Virginia State Univer- sity, 22 percent at Dillard University, 22 percent at Cen- tral State University, 20 per- cent at Florida Memorial University, and 19 percent at Delaware State University. Dillard, Philander Smith Col- lege (overall enrollment up 29
percent) and South Carolina State University all rely on overflow housing to accommo- date the influx of students," Kimbrough wrote. From 1976 to 2013, HBCU enroll- ment experienced a 36% in- crease. The numbers went
from 223,000 to 303,000.
These figures are ex- pected to rise in upcom- ing years. Last month, an Inside Higher Ed and Gallup survey reported 84 percent of university presidents believe race relations are “excellent”
or “good" on campus. How- ever, with the uptick of re- ported hate crimes on PWI campuses in recent years, these presidents are described as being delusional about what's happening right under their noses.
