FAMILY NOTICE
MS. LILLIAN VANN MCFADDEN
Ms. Lillian Vann McFadden, 89, died at Florida Hospital, Tampa on January 2, 2018. She was born November 22, 1928, in Tampa. Ms. McFadden was the youngest of six children born to Geneva Vann. She grew up in Belmont Heights. She attended Lomax Elementary, Booker T. Washington Junior High, and Middleton High School. There is no record of a marriage.
A Memorial Service was held at John Knox Rehabilitation Building on Tuesday, Jan. 23, 2018.
Ms. McFadden enjoyed the company of children and worked at Ferrell Middle School in the Food Service Department as an aide from 1974 until she retired in 1991. Her lunchroom supervisor was Sister Alberta Reed of First Baptist Church of College Hill, where Ms. McFad- den was a member. She accom- panied her sister, Mamie Vann, to the various activities of the Jolly Seniors Ministry of the church. Though basically shy, she looked forward to network- ing and fellowshipping with her contemporaries in that min- istry; they uplifted her spirits.
Reluctantly, Ms. McFadden had to take leave of her native residence in East Tampa when she became a patient at the John Knox Rehabilitation Center. She left Annie Pearl Wimberley, a longtime neighbor, and Robert Singleton, a reliable friend, to care for her home, in anticipa- tion of her return. After a med- ical decline, she was transferred to Florida Hospital at Fletcher, where she died.
She was more recently pre- deceased by her sister, Mamie Vann. They were constant com- panions for shopping, social networking, and worshipping.
Ms. McFadden is survived by a devoted niece, Anita Simmons, and nephew, Gerald Simmons, both of Rochester, NY; and car- ing East Tampa neighbors: Sharon and Gregory Douglas, Gloria and Otis Brandon; Rev. S. Evan Burrows, senior pastor at First Baptist Church of College
Hill and her designated med- ical surrogate; and Deacons Ernest Lockly and Albert Bell were her direct connections to the spiritual support of the church.
