The Golden State War- riors survived Game 1 of the Western Conference finals, roaring back from a 25-point deficit for a 113-111 victory over the San Antonio Spurs at Oracle Arena on Sunday.
It was an admirable show, to be sure, but one made possible by yet another in- jury to Spurs star Kawhi Leonard. The Warriors looked beat early in the third quarter, when Leonard buried two free throws to push the Spurs’ lead to 78-55 and the locals in this ear- splitting venue were as quiet as you’ll ever hear.
But there was a catch, and a monumental one at that.
Cavaliers Practicing Patience While Waiting For Celtics- Wizards Winner
KYRIE IRVING
Kyrie Irving misses the sounds, the sights, the stress of the NBA playoffs.
The All-Star point guard isn't the only one.
"We're itching to play," Irving said.
The Cavaliers are still wait- ing.
With Washington and Boston headed to a Game 7 on Monday, Cleveland's break since sweeping Toronto in the second round just grew a little longer. By the time the Cava- liers take the floor for Game 1 of the Eastern Conference fi- nals on Wednesday, it will have been nine days between games — the longest layoff since LeBron James took them to the postseason back in 2006.
For Irving and his team- mates, the break has grown boring and somewhat burden- some, testing their patience and willpower. Coach Tyronn Lue has resisted the tempta- tion to let his players scrim- mage 5 on 5, instead limiting their workouts to glorified walk-throughs.
Irving said the unbeaten- in-the-postseason Cavs are ready to run.
KEVIN DURANT AND STEPHEN CURRY
Leonard had tweaked his ailing left ankle on the left
corner jumpshot attempt that earned him the trip to the line, landing on the right foot of Warriors center Zaza Pachulia as he attempted to close. Leonard headed to the locker room for good shortly thereafter. It was the second time in a matter of minutes that Leonard ap- peared to re-injure the same ankle that kept him out of the late stages of Game 5 and all of Game 6 against the Houston Rockets in the Western Conference semifi- nals.
New York Yankees Retire Derek Jeter’s Jersey
Sunday night at Yankee Stadium, the New York Yan- kees celebrated Derek Jeter’s career by retiring his No. 2 jersey and enshrining him in Monument Park.
The star-studded cere- mony included a plaque un- veiling with Jeter aka ‘The Captain’ and his family. In front of former teammates and Yankees greats, Jeter took the microphone and de- livered a heartfelt thank you to all of the Yankees organi- zation and fanbase.
The Yankees retired the shortstop's No. 2 in between games of Sunday's double- header against the Houston Astros.
DEREK JETER
Jeter played his entire 20-season career with the Yankees from 1995 to 2014, has the most hits in franchise history and won five World Series as someone who was known for his overwhelming ability to rise to the occasion on pressure-packed stages.
Robert Griffin, III and his girlfriend, former Florida State track and field star Grete Sadeiko, shared some very big news over the week- end. And then they shared some more very big news.
For starters, the couple is engaged. Griffin proposed to Sadeiko on a beach in Florida on Saturday, and she said yes.
But that’s not all. RG3 and his fiancee are also expecting a child together, and according to Sadeiko’s photo caption they have kept the news a se- cret for quite some time.
“Today was the happiest day of my life and the last 8 months have been the most exciting time ever,” she wrote. “The man of my dreams and love of my life asked me to marry him today and we are one month away from wel-

coming our beautiful baby into this world. Words can’t de- scribe the feelings and emo- tions... Unreal. I’m the happiest girl alive and so ex- cited about everything ahead.”
Griffin just recently final- ized his divorce with ex-wife Rebecca Liddicoat, and it doesn’t sound like the split was very amicable. Things be- tween the free agent quarter- back and Sadeiko have obviously moved quickly.
