Local Howard W. Blake Class Of 1964 Celebrates 70th Birthday
Howard W. Blake High School class of 1964 celebrated their 70th Birthday at the Hyatt Hotel on Lois Ave. on August 27, 2016. Class members also toured the new Blake School on August 26, 2016. Mem- bers of the Blake Jazz Band and members of the Orchestra entertained with several selections.
A very good time was had by all.

‘Tribute To Black History’ At Florida State Fair
Brings Comedy To Downtown Tampa
The Florida State Fair Black History Committee in con- junction with the Hillsborough County Public Schools’ Office of Diversity invites organiza- tions to participate in the 2017 Florida State Fair “Tribute to Black History” Booth Exhibit, Celebrating Local & National African-American Legacies.
The Florida State Fair runs February 9-20, 2017. The Black History Booth Exhibit will be housed in the Special Events Center at the Florida
State Fairgrounds.
The deadline to submit an
exhibit proposal is Friday, Oc- tober 14, 2016.

The Tampa Bay Black Her- itage Festival is at it again with another admirable event in the Tampa Bay area. The event will be held on Sunday, November 6, 2016, at the Amalie Arena (401 Channel- side Drive, Tampa, FL 33602) in downtown Tampa.
The Festival will be present- ing an evening of comedy fea- turing national and local comedians and live entertain- ment. Enjoy the sounds of the LFG Band and laughter as Gina G., John Jacobs and Willie Brown and Friends grace the stage. This will be an event to re- member, it’s a night out with friends, date night, or a family outing. Recently, a retired Tampa businessman celebrated his 90th birthday with family members and friends. Her- bert C. Wellons enjoyed the day with members of his ex- tended family.
During the 1960s, Mr. Wellons managed a family- owned and operated popular restaurant, Rogers Dining Room, located on historic Central Avenue. After retir- ing, he relocated to Orlando for several years. However, recently, he moved back to Tampa and resides with his
