Timbaland Talks Weight Loss Transformation And Kicking Painkiller Addiction
TIMBALAND Timbaland is responsible
for crafting songs for some of music’s biggest stars — from Missy Elliott and Beyoncé to JAY-Z and Drake. But be- hind all of his success, Timbo was grappling with an aggres- sive addiction to painkillers and suffocating under his roughly 260 pounds of extra weight.
In a new interview with Men’s Health, the storied pro- ducer opens up about those dark days and revealed how he overcame them.
It started in 2011 when Timbo received a prescription for painkillers after getting a root canal. As he started down the path to addiction, he was soon abusing OxyContin and Percocet. Then, an old injury flared up, the result of being shot while working at a Red Lobster as a teenager. It pro- vided another excuse to ask for more pills.
And things only got worse. In 2013, he and his former wife Monique started divorce pro- ceedings and the IRS filed a $4 million lien for three years of unpaid taxes. But the painkillers provided an escape.
“It put me in a great feeling of not caring, of just being free,” he says. “I’m like traveling, doing shows, popping ’em, hav- ing fun, just being ignorant.” As he gained weight and got in- creasingly sluggish, he had a dream that shook him up.
“I had a dream that death was near,” he said. “I saw my- self with a white face.”
“God has me under con- struction, which I’m still under,” he concluded. “I don’t feel like I’m complete. I don’t want to ever feel like I’m com- plete, ’cause my mind would probably get idle. God needed me to be clear so I could see what is needed, not what I want.”
How Roddy Ricch Went
Has Already Landed
Three days after releasing his debut studio album, Please Excuse Me For Being Antiso- cial, Roddy Ricch sat in the back of a Sweet Chick restau- rant in Manhattan and laid out his life philosophy.
“Usually, the loudest in the room is the weakest,” he told me, taking time to carefully choose each word. “The qui- etest man in the room, who is being very observant, is the smartest and the strongest.”
This statement foreshad- owed how he would handle the biggest success of his career so far, which would come less than a month later when he secured the No. 1 album and the No. 1 song on the Billboard charts at the same time. While
Following a slew of leaks and teasers, Beyoncé’s in- augural Ivy Park x Adidas collaboration has been gain- ing a lot of buzz this week leading up to its official launch on January 18.

his closest competitor for the No. 1 spot on the Billboard Hot 100, Justin Bieber, was being criticized for begging fans to push his single “Yummy” to the top of the charts, Roddy stayed quiet. Outside of a few simple tweets, he opted to stay off social media and let the music speak for itself.
