Funeral/Memoriams
FAMILY NOTICE
LADY DEBRA THURMAN-SMITH
Lady Debra Thurman-Smith was born on July 13, 1953 to Willie F. Britt, Sr., and Sally Bae Thurman in Ariton, AL. She peacefully de- parted this life into heaven on Sat- urday, September 26, 2020 in her East Tampa home.
In lieu of funeral arrange- ments, Lady Debra wishes you to honor her memory by maintaining uplifting and joyous thoughts of your relationship.
Raised by her loving grandpar- ents, Debra was brought up in a small, rural, town of Greensboro, Florida. Debra often spoke fondly of her grade school years as she often reminisced about teachers who made significant impacts on her learning, which further shaped her perspective of the world .Hon- ored by many, Debra walked in the spirit of Christ and relished in the love of our Lord.
Debra was a devoted wife, mother, sister, aunt, godmother and friend. Burdened by the un- timely loss of her two beloved chil- dren, the late Yana Chantella Laxey and late Kwame Smith, Debra sought to find peace in her spirit to deal with such devastating losses by often reminding others the impor- tance of meaningful relationships and demonstrated such as she poured her love into others.
Active in several ministries at the Highland Missionary Baptist Church of Tampa, Debra partici- pated and volunteered both in Sun- day School and Bible Study. Debra transcended when she used her spiritual talents of culinary arts to appease the palettes and win the hearts of many. Debra had an un- canny ability and knack for prepar- ing some of the best tasting dishes that accurately relayed her inner creative abilities.
To know Debra meant you knew her infectious laugh, smile, and her understanding that “joy” is something that everyone can al- ways have. She was the light, that generous spirit and gentle person- ality that is only God-given.
Her beautiful life will be treas- ured by many and sorely missed by her siblings: Freda Britt, Killeen, TX; Wanda Britt, Cameron, TX; Renee Britt-Mosley (Lee), Troy, TX; Elder Dr. Ronald Britt (Angelia), Seaside, CA; Donald (Dawn) Britt, Ozark, AL; Elder Willie F.
